I'm aware of the reality, and I get lambasted every time I mention our reality as a mid-table also-ran, but we are at least SUPPOSED to be a big club, and we are SUPPOSED to have ambitions of getting into the top four.

Those ambitions seem to be disappearing under Martninez, mid-table mediocrity seems to be the accepted level of ambition at the moment.

Who did Moyes ever sign that screamed "Massive club"

It was a different era and he was operating under different circumstances, but Moyes bought loads of exciting signings. There are that many of them that I can't even be arsed listing them. He also bought his fair share of non-exciting signings, like Stracualrsi etc, but that was normally because he had been given a budget of 50p to spend, and went almost three years without signing a permanent first team player.

Yeah but if you read the last 250 pages of the Lukaku thread here, you'd think he was Brett Angel.

I'll take the opinion of a handful of people whose opinion I trust rather than a forum full of people I have no knowledge of on the internet.

That's fair enough mate, but it was kind of an understatement when I said that the thread on VillaTalk wasn't complimentary, they think he is absolutely diabolical! I consider it a decent source if you are wanting to obtain the Villa fans' opinion on Cleverley.

Yes, things have changed quite a bit from two years ago. I'm not sure if you know this, but a certain TV deal has made quite a difference.

And Moyes era oversaw the period of 2002 - 2013, and he had to go 2 and a half years without signing a single player.

He also nearly got us relegated in his second full season in charge.

MOYES OUT.

Which all clubs have received, all it has done is push up prices of players and make wages higher. In Moyes' first two seasons in charge he had a net spend of £10m. Martinez has had a net spend of £20m.

In that same period the turnover of the club has gone from £46m to £120m. A nearly three fold increase.

We'd have to be bottom of the League for that to happen. Can't see that. He gets a full Season surely. Deserves some time as he has shown he can manage.
I want to see him Manage a 1st eleven without the 3 or 4 duds that are getting picked this season.
Big pre season transfer window for us/him.
I would love to see Martinez given the opportunity to build the long term vision he has for our club.

If we come through December next season and are sitting in 12th with similar performances to this one then I would have to concede that he's not the man to take us forward.

Come through December next season with obvious signs of improvement and a clear direction for the football club? Then he will continue to receive my support.

If he plays youth with quality that need games together and you can see a definite future plan in the works, I am happy with that.
A team of Barry, McGeady, Naismith, Cleverley and any other Cleverley types he picks up getting 1st team selection regularly? Bye bye for me...
