Which all clubs have received, all it has done is push up prices of players and make wages higher. In Moyes' first two seasons in charge he had a net spend of £10m. Martinez has had a net spend of £20m.

In that same period the turnover of the club has gone from £46m to £120m. A nearly three fold increase.

Nah, it puts English clubs at a big advantage over European clubs, I do think Martinez is operating in a different market to what Moyes was. Everton are capable of signing the likes of Perisic or whoever and some people just recognise the potential signing of someone like Cleverley as an example of Martinez raving over a player that is actually pretty crap. With the money involved in football now, Everton can get themselves some serious players even if it meant selling some first. It's a different market than over 10 years ago.

Yes but how does that give us an advantage when the teams above us are still spending far more than us.

In Moyes' first two seasons in charge of Everton, Liverpool had a net spend of £11m on players. In the last two years they spent £58m.

Their spend has increased five fold, ours has doubled.

United went from £39m in those two years to £167m in the last two. A four fold increase.

The quality of the player will have increased, or at least should do. And perhaps the answer to those clubs spending pure cash isn't to get Cleverley on a free, I think we now have the ability to spend sums of money which can attract top players.

If he plays youth with quality that need games together and you can see a definite future plan in the works, I am happy with that.
A team of Barry, McGeady, Naismith, Cleverley and any other Cleverley types he picks up getting 1st team selection regularly? Bye bye for me...

Makes me feel sick thinking of those 4 players all playing together as first choice. Proper mid table mediocrity that, all with limited ability.

You're forgetting wage increases are pegged back by a club's going over the allocated % of wages to revenue generated (we are well over), and the fact that clubs are pegged back to an agreed (amongst PL clubs) £4M additional increase in wages season on season.

In order to get better players in we'd have to get rid of a lot of players already on the books and/or increase our revenue streams that are non-tv related.

The last season Moyes was here we had first team regulars of Neville, Osman, Heitinga, Anichebe and Jelavic.

I think there's some very rose tinted views about what standard of player this club has had in the recent past that would have them looking down their noses at what we can put out now.

If anybody wants an example of an off-season, take a look at Borussia Dortmund. On top of that, they have a better squad than us, play in a league with weaker opposition, and are currently sitting in a lower position than we are.

Does that make Klopp a [Poor language removed] manager? Not at all. Until we have consistent and
heavy investment in the squad, we will have the odd poor season.

I think we should give Martinez until the end of the season, allow him to clear out all the dross, and if our results drastically improve, he deserves at least another season.

Dortmund probably has a faction of plotters too, screaming about Klopp being a Swabian Clown, insisting he's had 6 fluky previous seasons in charge, and demanding the appointment of Herr McClaren.

Hasn't he also got a relegation on his CV.

I wonder if after every game there's a poll on Grand Old Dortmund about sacking him.
