Nope. Barkley was wide left. I was there.

Alot of times i noticed Barkley on the left and naismith central. Then Mirallas switching wings. I think we looked good last year with Naismith behind lukaku, if we need to win a game then drop Barkley deeper maybe ? These are the little changes i always bleat on about, that will help martinez at least show signs we are changing/adapting to the dogfight were in. Some think that because he has tightened up the defence that we can forgive the lack of attacking balance and threat.

Have it your way, it doesn't alter anything it's still only 4/5 games instead of 3/4 like I initially said. The point is it hardly changes anything, yet people harp on about it like it's been every game when clearly it was either an experiment or out of necessity for only a very small amount of games.

It is not a case of having it his way in relation to barkley playing on the left of the attacking three, ross barkley has played out of position many times, either starting wide or being moved wide as the game went on, martinez also done the same thing to samuel Eto'o. Again i have said many times today, just moving a player from left to right doesnt change anything in his formation. It is still 4-2-3-1 with only one winger which cuts off our threat down the opposite wing. if we were to get all FIFA about it then i would say a 4-4-1-1 or 4-4-2 would be better with two wingers. Credit were credit is due Martinez has tightened it up, mainly due to stones return.

When Eto'o signed for us he sounded as if he really rated Martinez

I think we all did, but there just seemed to be a phase were distin and eto'o in particular had enough of the style of play. I feel Mirallas may be next, also when you look at the actions of some of our players such as Baines, Naismith, barkley and coleman they all look at eachother in frustration when we choose to pass 3,4,5,6, times more instead of a inscisive through ball for example.

In the same period we had played 19 games, That's 5 more and you have to take in to account the amount of traveling to the likes of Russia

We had one game in the "likes of Russia"......and from memory we played United when we came back from that and only a combination of a missed penno, Howard taking the heeby jeebies out on the wing and a world class performance from De Gea denied us a win that day.

The other two away trips in Europe?

Germany is a reasonable journey.......and Lille is probably closer to Liverpool than Southampton is.

So whatever else has been ailing us this season, jetlag ain't one of them.

I've covered this earlier he's hardly ever played out wide, no more than 4/5 games, you're making out its happening every week. He's been played centrally but people cling to this falsehood it's happening all the time because it wasn't a success and need another stick to bash Martinez with without actually looking at the team, the formation and who's on the pitch playing where.

And I don't care whether you want fifa 4-2-3-1, 4-3-3, 2-5-1-3 or 01516372534 he's not out wide he's playing through the M-I-D-D-L-E in a C-E-N-T-R-A-L position and has rarely played out wide.

Not sure if I want Martinez gone or not, the list of possible replacements is scary.

I know this much though, I sure as Sh!t ain't reading that opening post

My favourite moment of the whole Martinez out 'failure to launch' debacle:

'Eh lads, currently trending on twitter "proper Evertonians", lad'.

:hayee:

Is that the same Distin and Eto'o who weren't 1st choice picks?

I don't mind people wanting Martinez to stay (I don't care as much now as it looks like we'll avoid the drop, so willing to give him until around November next season), but I really wish people would stop trotting out this excuse every time as a defence.

It was a stupid reason not to dismiss David Moyes and it's a stupid reason now.

The issue is quite clear really, we miss Leon Osman.

All other answers are void.

I don't know if you are serious but Ossie's injuries have probably been the most damaging of all this season.....closely followed by Peinaar.

They are the boys who spot the little pass which puts Baines or Coleman in to make the "assist" for a goal.

Without thise two we have been clueless when it comes to picking the lock of a rigid defence.

after last night, i really think we're capable of going well in Europe, why I bother even following the match day thread is beyond me,last night in particular was disturbing, don't really know what was expected against the best team in England in their own back yard,we played a huge part in the game, had players dying for the cause,we deserved a point and still the forum was critical of they efforts. The big loss this season has been McCarthy, for me that's as plain as the nose on your face, back in the team now, just watch the team improve.Martinez has had a bad run, without a doubt, but to talk of wanting him out belongs back in the match day thread.
If the lads go like that away from home in Europe,Martinez may well salvage something fom the season.
