lols. beat ingurland twice. while he still bottled the semifinal (against a superior team), at least he learned from his past. instead of going up 2-0 to collapse, he had the side go down 0-2 to Japan only to take it.

Martinez. Only slightly better than Gareth southgate.

Both managers got club teams relegated from the premier league.

Different standard of coaching internationally.

Disagree on both counts, mate.

1) Martinez has a superior playing style (when it comes off). He's also won the FA Cup and reached semis of a few tournaments. We'll always have 72 points. It's pretty obvious England fluked their run to the semis, while Belgium knocked out Brazil quite convincingly (and that's a Brazil who looked far superior to the emotionally-chaotic side who got thrashed by Germany 4 years prior) and beat England twice without conceding.

That's a lot more than slightly better. Southgate has much to prove still.

2) Different yes, but I know you meant it to mean international coaching is an inferior standard to club coaching. It's not true in a technical-quality sense. It's a different discipline, but not inferior/superior. It's only inferior (i.e. less) in a workload/logistical sense. We have plenty of examples of high-end successful club coaches who failed when they tried their luck internationally: Capello for one. Trapattoni, Clemente, even Alex Ferguson.
