Martinez Interview

I can understand where becoming from but we have to be concerned about the leaking goals, he also has this problem at Wigan, is this his weakness?

For me, he badly miscalculated the quality we had in defence going into the summer. It was a hell of a mistake to make to believe he could get another decent season out of both Distin and Jagielka. I think we all said so at the time but maybe he preferred not to pick battles with the old guard at the club and put the changes that needed to be made back a season. It's rebounded on him big style.

We need to get a CB in during January. Badly. I can see us leaking goals from those two friggin muppets all season otherwise.

He hasn't answered my point at all there.
Sorry mate.

Ingraining the style of play into the club will help the young players coming through the ranks to adjust to playing in the first team easier (thereby making the phasing out of the old guard less painful).

To abandon that for a short term gain would make it harder to progress long term.

Good interview with RM and even if you don't like the style I think the logic (sticking with your plan) is solid. We've had worse luck than most (our mistakes have been punished by opponents more than average -- that will hopefully regress), injuries, decisions etc. Not to say we'd be doing great without those of course. It's been a horrible few months EFC-wise but I for one think Bobby will turn it around.

What the......? That's a very good post.

I'm not saying abandon the style mate, more get the young lads in now and let the learn the style the hard way. If Browning, Ledson and another young lad come in and make mistakes and we come 12th or so, I genuinely won't mind because I'd be able to see where it was leading to. There would be an obvious vision.

Playing Distin etc to me simply doesn't make sense, as they won't improve.

Good point. You could see those lads in the Krasnodar game were being coached by Unsworth in a manner that they can slot right in.

I'm in two minds here...

A-- We go all out for Van Dijk, play him next to stones then in the summer we have:
Stones, Van Dijk, Browning, Galloway, Jagielka

B-- Bring in a top young prospect and bed him in this season ready to step up to first choice in the summer.

Option A sorts out the season and gets us a top centre back...however option B means this season is a write off but we could have a superstar to go with stones in defence.

You're assuming the young lads are all at a similar level and first team ready. Not sure they are yet. And a team that finishes about 6 places lower than it should isn't a happy environment to be a part of.

See your point but sometimes young players can be ruined and break his confident which will damage him where distin can shrug off his mitsakes.
