I don't like this distinction being drawn between travelling fans and those whom only attend home games these days.
For a start, the overwhelming majority of fans who travel away are to be found at every home game.
So the away fans are also the home fans.
And the vast majority of the rest of us have been travelling fans in our day.....in my own case Old Father Time and health issues restrict me to at most two away games per year, and then only to local away games around the North West or a London game if we go down there to weekend with my sister.
So don't anyone go thinking that home fans and away fans are a "different breed".
They ain't.....we are all cut from the same quarry.
The fact that travelling fans are by and large younger chaps and chappesses who find themselves surrounded by hostile natives in some far flung corner of England, being urged to "sign on" and "search in dustbins" is in part what brings out the defiant chanting and singing.
Put thise away fans back in their own bailiwick and they are moaning, groaning and chucking metaphorical cushions with those of us who blazed the trails to Barnsley, Middlesboro or Pompey long before they were born
