literally half those players have massive question marks for me, robles, alcatraz, mcgeady in particular are simply not everton players in my opinion. atsu a complete unknown quantity at this point and even stones might not be ready to start week in week out.

what do you mean by "not Everton players" what is an Everton player? or do you mean, you don't think they are good enough.

I think more importantly than what Martinez has achieved on the playing side and with the backroom staff, is the way he has changed the mentality and perception of the club. Not just with the media and other supporters but amongst Evertonians in general. Now I'm sure others have been involved but Martinez has been the catalyst for change.

I can never 'get behind' a keeper that punches everything in the air - makes them look like they have no confidence when they punch a ball that is there to be caught, it then makes the fans nervous, which makes the keeper nervous, which makes him more likely to mis-punch, which creates a viscous cycle. that's why I don't like Robles.

The rest of them are alright though (apart from Alcaraz...but he's a good enough squad filler)

I was thinking about this too, and I think it's fair to say that this can now be said to be Martinez's squad - he's signed, or extended contracts for most of the players in the squad now.

Impressive, after just over a year only.

I've actually read about this, apparently alot of foreign keepers are taught to punch instead of catch, and when i read the argument for it made a lot of sense.

When a keeper goes to catch, he runs the risk or dropping it, it slipping through, it rebounding off his gloves, all of which could result in the striker stealing an easy goal. But when he punches it, he clears the ball 9/10 times to his midfield/DM meaning the danger is 100% away from the goal.

In England we've always been taught that catching is best, same way as we were always taught if it goes to your left side use your left hand, even if your right is strongest. Only now keepers are being taught to actually use their right on both sides, so if it goes to your left, stretch your right across instead.

What is an "Everton player".

There was a time, when I was young, when such a critter did indeed exist.

But we have watched too many Glen Keeleys, Ian Wilsons, Neil McDonalds, Brett Angels, Ray Attevelds, Ibn Tals, Prekis and Klaus Thomsons ply their trade at Goodison for us to be sniffy and claiming certain players aren't "Everton players".

Particularly Mc Geady, who has shown enough flashes of skill to suggest he might just be that rare but delightful mythological beast, the lesser spotted "Everton player".

Think of De Gea when he first joined Man United for £20m.. Shaky, dodgey in the air.. Now he's seemingly solid, and Robles just needs gametime to be one of that team which isn't in the "Alcaraz" list.

Not a chance of being the best squad. We have had far better... and they have won silverware.

When we won trophies, squads didnt exist. Squads are a new thing, prem era. This is the best squad we have had in the prem er, so best ever.

Obv its not our best team ever!!!
