I cut Marco a little slack due to the poisoned chalice he's inherited, courtesy of Fatty Koeman's and Gormless Walsh's mind-bogglingly inept squad recruitment. Having said that, I fear our young Portuguese manager is more than a little out of his depth. And it shows in his demeanour, his comportment. I'm a subscriber to the truth behind the expression 'eyes are the window into the soul'. The abject terror I see in Marco's eyes reveal a tortured soul. Every waking second for him is agonisingly crippling. Yes, Everton has done the same to all of us on this forum...but we, through long-suffering support, have grown some immunity to its ravages. Marco was way too vulnerable...and Everton has laid him to waste.

I cannot see him ever recovering from this experience...he will be on medication the rest of his life and quite possibly require 24/7 professional monitoring.
It's a sad denouement...but this is just what Everton does to people.

An epiphanic moment in my life came courtesy of reading Anais Nin's trail-blazing 'In favour of the Sensitive Man'. Her treatise on the tortured soul taught me so much. Poor Marco is in a place no man should be. But we, as long term supporters, know that this is a place Everton will place a man...not merely staring into the abyss, but being hurling him into it. It's an infinitely dark, loveless place...a perdition. Us long suffering Evertonians have adapted to its cruel environs...but Marco?...he's gone, lost forever. Everton has stripped him of his soul.
