He could really do with a win on Saturday just to keep things on track. The key for me this season is that we go through a decent phase of playing good football that yields a lot of points.

What we can't have is the type of season last time around where we were turgid throughout and scrambled the points together through other sides in the division just being awful.

Absolute lightweight, just imagine if any of the top 6 managers had conceded that offside goal, their would be chaos after the game. Hardly a whimper from this fella. Look forward to us getting mugged off all season.

Would not surprise me if a number of senior players don't like harder training.

What is clear is that we need the training. I think these niggles are down to the intensity but it's necessary. We are so undynamic it's scary.
No leaders in the side. No inspirations as of yet. No one to drive them on. Certainly not the likes of Sig, Walcott and other senior players
This side desperately needs a Timmy Cahill or two to put em to shame.

No.
To sort the defence out first is exactly what you do when building a team.
You will never have confidence throughout team until you have a solid defence.
You may see confidence in individuals like with Rico at the start of the season. But keep conceding goals and the head will drop.
Its something I fear happened to him today in the second half.
It must have been a dose of cold reality after basking in the sunshine with Brazil.

100% this. Our. First season under Bobby was so good because he added flair and goals on top of Moyes well drilled defence, plus added the stability of Gareth Barry.

It took a season for that well drilled defensive solidity to disappear and it never ever returned and Bobby's teams looked a shambles come the end (not even practicing defending from corners!!)

Silva can't just do the flair part as it will be a castle built on sand.

Forwards definitely play better when they have confidence in their defence. God I hope Mina is good....

I reckon if the offside goal had been their first goal then I reckon he would have said something, probably thought it wasn't worth it considering they were already 1 up, and we hadn't put our chances away in the game.

What are you on about?

We were by far the better team for an hour. The tactics worked. The tactics were to press high and use our pace in forward areas to spring on the counter. We got in twice one-on-one and failed to convert.

We had 9 shots (as many as Arsenal) on the whole, and six on target (more than Arsenal).
Makes no sense - you can't press high and at the same time 'spring on the counter'.
A counter without any spring, perhaps?
Far better? - c'mon, you mean they actually played some football. That's basically where they should be at base level.
Arsenal were bang average in the first half and not better than anything we've played against so far.
They were there for the taking, but instead, the tactics did not work - because we conceded two goals and capitulated.
The counter approach was the right one - Silva's execution of it was poor.

Yes, you can.

Liverpool do it constantly.

A team has possession. The opposition press high, win the ball back, and then spring forward - that's a counter-attack. You don't have to sit deep to counter, or it doesn't have to be from a deep position.

We're far better as a counter-attacking side than a possession-based side atm, because we don't currently have a player in midfield who dictates the game.

We showed our quality on the counter (with the pace of Walcott, DCL and Richarlison) today, and it should have paid off, but we didn't finish the chances.

In the second half we had more of the ball but did less with it because we lack the players to play that way.

How was Silva's execution poor? We created two golden chances that we missed. Therefore, the tactics worked. The players didn't finish the chances of.

Find it funny some people doubting him already. He had and still got a big job on his hands trying to improve all aspects of this side. Him and brands start that with a decent summer transfer window. It's going to take time. Rome wasn't built in a day.
Let's not forget, Alex ferguson didn't get it right straight away at united, was on the verge of the sack until an fa cup win, then look what happened(unfortunately). Patience is needed but it will come good.

who do you suggest we should have bought during those few weeks that we had to buy?[/QUOTE. We had time to get a striker . Welbeck would of been bettter than tosun niasse or dcl. We have money. The World Cup is no excuse for not having one. Also we have others in the squad that would be better placed there
