More to his job than showing players to the door.

If the window shuts with what we need: a CB (one at least), a dynamic CM, a forward with aerial threat, then it's been a good window.
That’s not his job either though. All he can do is identify players and negotiate with agents/clubs, but he can’t sign off the cheques. If we end the window without getting the players we need, then IMO that’s more a case of the dough not being there than Brands failing at his job.

"More to his job than showing players the door."

And yet you're only judging him on players walking in the door. :coffee:
Nope. We just dont know the value of the loan deals he's done, so it's pointless giving credit for those. Anyone can shift players out by agreeing to pay their wages. For the most part the departures have been fairly low level players and easy to bin off to lower league teams.

If the dough isn't there it means he has signed up to that and therefore he's bought into the resultant failure for a massive pay packet.

We'll see. I dont wish to condemn him until the window closes.

Keane (£30M) / Williams(£10M) / Mori(£10M) / Holgate(£2M) / Stones(£3m).
Ah ok. Stretching the definition of “a few years” there chap.

Although makes you think.... not a fan of “net spend” but we’re actually in profit on centre backs over a 5 year period (despite having bought our most expensive post Neymar and sold our most expensive pre Neymar). Hardly surprising our back line has gone... backwards.

Clubs like Burnley and Southampton cope with selling good CBs. It's doable. And (unlike them) we've just seen £250M spent in two or three seasons. There's no excuse whatsoever for the middle of our defence to resemble Croxteth Royal British Legions pairing on a Sunday after they've been bevvying until 4 o'clock in the morning.
