Bernard was free and performed well at Shaktar previously - worth a gamble

Delph - cheap and can see why they took the risk. Quality player when fit, winner, leader and experienced. Unfortunately not worked out.

Kean - one of Europes hottest prospects who just didnt work out - covid probably didnt help but will be sold at a profit so actually smart business.

Iwobi - ill give you that.

Like any signing that could be reasonably considered dubious at the time, (I'd exempt Kean), you can only say they were worth signing if they did work out though.

We won't be smashing transfer fees for players so every signing we make has more risk attached, relative to the likes of Man City. You pay a premium for what is considered real quality, even though there aren't guarantees.

The summer before last, his first full summer in the role, Brands presided over a car-crash in terms of signings. Hardly off to an inspiring start by the opinion of the vast majority.

Last summer, it can be argued that he was largely sidelined in an attempt to allow Ancelotti bring players he worked with into the club. I'll credit him with Godfrey.

Overall, it doesn't add up to much for Brands.

Another summer of his contribution in the same vein would seem disastrous. He really needs to prove himself now.

Would people take Steve Walsh back to do his actual job as a scout or is the damage he did to our club too much to forgive him???

Delph's injury record was well documented. Risk not worth taking.

This summer the signings have to have to tick a few boxes

Pace
Energy
Strength
Technical ability
Mobility
Under 25

No more slugs who turn like the QE2, look like they run in quicksand, pass like they are blindfolded and get brushed off the ball like an 8 year old before blowing at 60 mins
And be winners who hate getting beat even in training and wont put up with losers

Know there's way too much fawning over west ham currently but one thing to take note is that they engaged in some heinous recruitment at a very similar time as us. But they eventually replaced more problematic aspects in an expedited amount of time by actually using every window instead of us being timid due to the inflated market. Also repurposed some of the more inefficient players as squad assets. Even found an academy player that isnt mediocre and can play in the first team. We act like we're the only club that were saddled with dreadful players. Also Marcel has had three summer windows and our bench is the island of misfit toys and doubling as daycare for the 16 year olds who aren't going to get in. Yeah injuries are prevalent but his job requires contingencies being devised

Brands seems scared of Janurary I think we need to use every window. Also until last summer he bought some players not suited to this league in Gomes, Bernard, passed their best in Delph and a panic buy in Iwobi. We now have to move some his own mistakes to start to move the squad the right way. On the plus side last summer there were good signings in the main, but that he hasn't addressed several glaring issues at right back, and right wing and lack of mobility in midfield is a big worry.

Bernard is small and weak even a blind man could see that. Should have watched Brazil-Germany 2014 again. Laughable to think he could perform in the premier league. Delph was more injured than he played for the last 3 years. Idiotic transfer. Iwobi was poor panic and a no clue buy. Overall he doesn't know what he is doing. Only thing he is doing well: doing favors to his pal pizzaiolo Raiola!

He also never got a game in centre mid at City, ever.

His entire reputation is built on filling in at left-back for a year, for a team so far ahead of the rest that it could afford to play Fabian Delph at left-back for a year.

He played a lot of games in midfield mate.

I mean he's rubbish and injured, there's no real need to add to that.
