Manny vs Derby

So long as he plays to his potential we have a winner.

Hoestly zero, I have just been waiting for an excuse to talk about the guy in a good light. Watch him destroy the Brum middle on the weekend. It's going to be great. With him, Arteta, Osman and Pienaar working the middle.

Mmm, looks tasty!

[Poor language removed] me I can't wait for the summer so we can finally reach some resolution over the lad, whatever it is. I've been through more anxiety over him in the last year and a half than any other player I've ever known.

For the record, I love the lad. It might sound silly given that he's yet to play 20 games for us (even including last year) or make a real contribution to our cause but I think he's my favourite player. And this isn't a knee-jerk reaction to his assist against Derby, I was all set to get Fernandes 37 on me shirt back in August.

I've always been a fan of his, and you can see his fitness was never there in the previous games.

But I'm still not sure where Moyes wants him to play or where he plays. Left Wing? Pienaar owns that for me. Centre Mid? Attacking Mid? Defensive Mid? I just dunno.

And if we are gonna buy him, how much? I've always said 6 at the most which I hope the can sort out even though his agen ti s money grabbing [Poor language removed].

And also - lets start playing the ball along the floor again if we want to get the best out of him. Hoofing the ball doesnt work for him or Arteta and they need to do that against Brummy because its gonna be tough.

We start playing good football again, our run in will be sweet.

The beuaty of it is the versatlity. With Pienaar, Manny, Ossie and Arteta, they spend the whole match switching around, making it real hard to mark and keep track. Think of it as 'total football' for the midfield.

Against Brum I'd start him on the left:

Arteta-----Osman-----Carsley-----Fernandes

Like that. He's not fit enough to be playing centrally and his lapses in concentration and rustiness could back fire on us if he played in the middle. On the left he's got more chance to use his attacking qualities and link up with Baines/Lescott.

To be honest he is decent on the wing. One of his better performances for us was on the wing against Watford away and he also played on the wing when he scored that thunder bolt against Man utd. Once he's used to the pace of the game interchange him with Osman and see if he can get a grip of the game. Once he gets tired swap him for Pienaar.

I did mention swapping Fernandes throughout the game with Osman when I did my champ manager-style team against the RS for the derby - playing him in Cahill's position with Osman behind and having them swap.

I love the idea - its very much the way the Mancs play - But I still think he needs a position where he starts and is comfortable in otherwise he's just another benchwarmer. Unless he's replacing Carsley and the defensive mid is out of the window
