Manchester United next season?

I think the top four will most likely be City, Chelsea, Arsenal and United. Chelsea to be champions. Arsenal and United to fight it out for third spot.

Guessing he means the conventional wisdom that the extra Champions League fixtures are great because they also bring in more money, but extra Europa Leagues fixtures are bad because the cash per game is lower, and therefore stretches the squad thinner.

I don't think it's necessarily true. It might hold true for tiny clubs like Swansea, but for any big club... Eh.

Spurs finished about where they should have last season. We might not have the money they do, but we also have a better academy than them. We'll be fine.
To start with, even the gate receipts are similar, the EL group stage only brings 2-4M in TV receipts + prize money, while the CL group stage pays 20+30M.

That's why Wenger aims for the 4th place every year - because if they fall out of the competition they will be in deep trouble.

On another note, I think on 1 May next year Giggs is plying his trade once again as interim manager of the Man Yoo.

TBH I would like to have Utd first up in the league next season. Catch them cold & all that if they're trying to assimilate new players in to the squad. Chances are we'll get Burnley though .....

Always seems that we get one of the top sides whenever we play at home in the opener.... always seems that.

Gk - De Gea, Lindegaard
RB - Rafael
CB - Jones, Smalling, Evans
LB - Evra
Wings - Januzaj, Valencia, Nani, Young, Zaha
CM - Carrick, Cleverley, Fellaini, Fletcher
AM - Rooney, Mata, Kagawa
Strikers - Van Persie, Welbeck, Hernandez

That is not a piss poor squad. Moyes made it look piss poor. Fergie never finished below 2nd with most of these players, and the two times he came second - was once by one point and once lost the title on GD. United have a world class goalkeeper and some excellent attackers. The defense is a tad injury prone but very talented. A couple of additions in midfield and defense, a year off the Fergie overhung, coupled with a good manager can bring them back to the top.

They have an awful squad mate, except for the front 3. Them CB's are terrible and wouldn't start at any other top 6 side neither would any of the wingers. I think he's got a massive job on getting United anywhere near the top 4. The midfield is poor and the defence needs a complete re-build except for the GK.

This united is capable of scraping its way into a top 4..combined with the rumoured additions, should be enough see us having pudding at the top end of the table...
I believe it will be a slow start this season but LvG should be alright.

Two of those CB's are in the English squad. I know that isn't a ringing endorsement, but they are talented players who never had a consistent run because of constant injuries and presence of Rio/Vidic. Fergie during his final years for some reason preferred and trusted his old guard more than anytime in his career. For that reason they never got a consistent run under him or were pushed at RB. Those CB's are talented, and United will definitely bolster the area with another signing.

The CB's for the top 4 sides last season were Kompany, Demichelis, Skrtel, Sakho, Terry, Cahill, Kos and Per. Besides Kompany (who is the worst "best" defender in the world) & Kos none of them are much better. A lot of good defending depends on the system you adopt too. Terry just the season before last looked finished. Last season under Jose's system his partnership with Cahill blossomed and was the best in the league. The best defenses can look awful with of a poor midfield in front of them and that is United's biggest problem.

Van Gaal is not manager who'll pay particular attention to defense and would prefer ball playing CB's, who are adept to bring the ball out of the back. Evans and Jones have the talent to prosper under the system as they are very good on the ball. A three man midfield will provide more cover to defense, which will allow attacking FB's to prosper and lessen their defensive responsibilities.

Midfield is the achilles heel, and has been for quite a while. So, yes, I agree that unless investment in the area, United are going to struggle next season.

I think Utd will have a decent season next time . Van Gaal will get his own players in and I think players will enjoy his managerial style tbh

They have a massive job IMO...they have subpar/aging players all over the pitch...SAF done so much with a shower of shoite in his last season. Applause to that incredibly hate worthy cnut...Moyes or (insert name here) didn't stand a chance.

Utd need to spend big, they need 2 CB a LB 2 wingers and a CM

Smalling/jones/Anderson/Valencia/Cleverly and Welbeck are all crap and wouldn't get in any other top 6 teams

Exactly. No way was the squad at United as bad as they looked last year. It's almost inevitable that they'll get fleeced in the transfer market as everyone knows how desperate they are. The question is whether van Gaal can get more out of the squad than Moyes did. He certainly comes with a reputation as a hard task master, and there are a whole lot of players there who have underperformed lately.
