Couldn’t find a thread for this, apologies if there is one, but here’s a place to discuss the madness that is the hiring and firing of managers in world football.

I’ll begin with Mark Hughes, why in God’s name would anyone hire him when relegation looks like an almost certainty?

Do West Brom see relegation as a certainty and Pardew as the man to yo-yo them?

Hughes won't be there to coach them to safety - he's there to ring a few home truths and try and get them motivated for the run-in. Bit of a gamble from Southampton like.

I have a particular dislike of Mark Hughes. His time at City and his toothless barking at us was did him in for me; more than his awful playing stint where he stunk up the joint.

Nothing against Southampton in particular, but with Hughes there, I wouldn't be unhappy if they went down now.

I didn’t dislike city until Hughes was incredibly classless there like some tv reality star whose found themself famous but no clue how to behave . I actually expected better of him .

Yup, he always comes across as an utterly graceless backside of a man.

Football is a business, so like in any other industry if the management aren't performing they must go. Get rid of as soon as possible.

I think that Ferguson turned it round to be ridiculously successful and even that our own Howard went through a difficult time skewed the idea for a while and gave support to the idea of giving managers time . The success Chelsea have enjoyed and the stats that generally support the short term boost of a new appointment at a team in trouble have definitely changed that .

If what you say is true and football is a buisness and management that isn’t performing should be sacked can you explain Kenwright, Woods and Elstone’s continued existence at our club ???

Hughes is one crap manager !!

And he was utterly pathetic for us on the pitch !!

Southampton’s board and owners have only themselves to blame.
When you consider the sheer quality and number of players they have sold over the last 10/15 years and it seems to be accelerating in later years.
I’m sure you could probably field a full premier league team ( gk excepted ) of players still playing in the PL who have been sold by Southampton
They havent re invested the money back into the team
Les Reed is excellent at his job but he’s not a miracle worker.
WBA are in the position they are in because of years of management by Pulis
As you sow so shall you reap

I always got the impression that he thought he was too good to be with us, which in all fairness he wasn't. He had lost all of his abilities when he came to us and was a shadow of the player he had been. Rubbish. I presume that he was another of Smith's over-the-hill has-beens on a final payday (just checked - of course he was!).

I agree, selling all of your good players and bringing in relative unknowns can only work for so long, they’ve pushed their luck and have finally got burned.

No decent manager would want to come in when they know that any player they have who performs well will most likely be sold to another team in their own league without much resistance (VVD aside). It is clear the money isn’t going back into the team, have they really invested that £75m into anyone? And is there really any point putting it into your academy when you just sell the players young anyway?

I think this is why Mark Hughes was their appointment, no one else would touch them with a barge pole.

I don’t actually consider them as a football team anymore, they’re just Liverpool B

Those were in times when money did not rule so much.

Moshri is a wuss!
