Manager, Long Term.

The problem with Arteta being mamager before the age of 40 would be that the best midfielder on Everton’s books would be standing on the sideline in a suit managing the team.

Totally agree, and I put it up there with another popular shout, that a new manager 'has to have won stuff'. And sorry for repeating myself, cos I know I've said this here before, but there are far more good coaches around than there are trophies they can win.

I look at the bundesliga, and 3 or the coaches that have impressed me most recently is Niko Kovac, Heiko Herrlich and Julian Nagelsmann - none of them have won a bean, and I'd gladly see either of them at my club.

For a club that should be looking at a 'project' style situation, I would say that it would be very interesting proposition to go with someone like Arteta. So long as they then are willing to give him time, and to work methodically with player recruitment. There needs to be a real structure put in place frm the top on down.

Yeah, id be interested in the prospect of Arteta, but if you look at our squad, if Arteta was going to come in, how many of them feel like "Arteta" style players (if obviously managerially he replicates his playing style), it would need ANOTHER restructure of players possibly? And i dont feel that would be a good thing for the club

Surely that's just life isn't it?

I didn't get my engineering degree then pester companies to give me a go at project management.

Me: "Excuse me sir, give me a go and if I lose you millions you can just let me go"

Boss: "close the door on your way out".

Like any trade, you work your way up. Being good at "small time" outfits says a lot for a person. It shows grit and determination, an understanding how someone acts under pressure etc.

The likes of the managers you mentioned did just that, worked their way up but unfortunately they hit the ceiling with regards to ability. You work your way up, not down. The world would be in chaos if we did it your way.

Yes but also these men have been profesional footballer and worked in football since they were 15, its not as if they are coming from a building site to become a football manager, unless your Mark Wurbaton

Also i hate the "in my job" analogy's! And, "in any other line of work" stuff.
This isnt your job, its not any other line of work, its football.

We need a total restructure of players whoever the manager is

There are definite gaps in the squad, and quality in key positions lacking, but a new manager who could get something out of Klaassen, Vlasic, Sandro, Lookman, Schneiderlin etc through better coaching/positioning might be able to get a tune out of them.

Problem will always be that our midfield is a mess of central midfielders who can't play in a 2 and pace-less number 10's unable to operate in wide positions.

Dude, same deal.

Brick layer: "I've been on site for 15 years and know how stuff works. Give me a go at project management and if I lose you millions, just let me go"

Boss: "close the door on your way out".

The analogy is justified. Football is a business, end of. Fools let newbie grads/newbie managers run things. What business do you run by the way? Would you trust your hard earned graft to some "new idealist type who spouts new ideas out of his ass"?

I appreciate your views mate, but god help your employees when your company goes boobs up!

If Fonseca ruled himself out of the running in the summer then I’d be open to Arteta coming in.

He knows the club inside out and would understand the style of football we expect. He’s worked under some top managers and played at the highest level and working so closely with Pep for the past couple of years won’t have done him any harm whatsoever. I think surrounded by an experienced backroom team, he could do a good job here.

Would much rather have him in than some of the utter garbage we were linked with before we panicked and got Fat Sam. I think patience will be the key with a new manager as we’re in such a state at the minute, it will take anyone time to stamp their own footprint on this squad.

No matter who the manager is next season, one things for sure and that’s Steve Walsh needs to be given the bullet. What an utter disaster that man has been for Everton FC. Taken us back 10 years.

Swerve the arteta shouts, just because he puts the cones out for pep don't mean jack. Next appointment is huge, get it wrong and we go back to being a bottom half team
Your joking, Arteta is one of the most highly rated backroom coaches in the country at the moment.
