I Can't agree. John Noakes would have done anything and is still a top man. Bear Grylls would have ate Shep live on tv, then been found out as a fraud. No class. Sorry.

Bear Grylls, absolute legend.

My girlfriend loves him too, especially the fact that he loves to get naked at least once in every episode...

Is Bear Grylls the ultimate superman,I rate him better than John noakes(y)

1 word....FAKE.

THE MAN IS............. Les Hiddins, no comparison.

I'd even say that Ray Mears is better than Grylls.

fake or not he is a badass.. He has done some amazing things..
Bear Grylls in ?fake? scenes controversy (From Thisisdorset)

The Eton-educated......alarm bells going here already 33-year-old's stomach-churning survival tips included eating live maggots from the body of a decaying animal carcass, sucking fluid from fish eyeballs and squeezing water out of fresh elephant dung.

But now an advisor to the programme has claimed that many of the scenes were not as they seemed.

Survival expert Mark Weinert told the Sunday Times: "If you really believe everything happens the way it is shown on TV, you are being little bit naïve."

In one scene in California's Sierra Nevada, he said Mr Grylls was filmed trying to lasso "wild" horses, which were actually tame and had been brought in by trailer from a trekking centre.

Another showed him biting off a snake's head for breakfast, telling viewers he had only a water bottle, a cup and a flint for making fire, when he was staying some nights at a lakeside hotel.

Mr Grylls was also staying in a hotel in Hawaii while filming an episode where he claimed to be a "real-life Robinson Crusoe" stuck on a desert island.

Channel 4 has confirmed that Mr Grylls used hotels during expeditions and has ordered the production company that made the show to investigate the other claims.

In an interview before the series was screened, Mr Grylls said Channel 4 told him to do what he had to in order to survive.

"They made it very clear that it could be very raw and very real."

A spokesman for the chan-nel said: "Bear does his own stunts and does put himself in perilous situations.

"Born Survivor is not an observational documentary series, but a how to' guide to basic survival techniques in extreme environments."

He added: "The programme explicitly does not claim that the presenter's experience is one of unaided solo survival."

Mr Grylls regularly visit his widowed mother Lady Sally Grylls at her home near Wimborne, but neither was available for comment.

*searches for bullingdon membership.

he was in the sas like, so willno doubt have some skills and i dare say far more than many of us, but it's just all sensationalised for tv. heis nothing more than a toff though.

I'm sure he'll be able to take criticism on the chin.

Grylls or Mears – who cares? Rising Stars

The Eton-educated survival expert has spoken for the first time about his public mauling by Ray Mears, who earlier this year dismissed Grylls as a “boy scout” and a “showman”.

Grylls called his BBC rival’s comments “rude” and “outrageous” but conceded that Mears was “much tougher” than him and welcomed being compared to a boy scout.

“I love boy scouts. They are brilliant. One of the best things this country has ever done is boy scouts,” he said.

The above quote is the important bit.

I wouldn't say he is a faker, as he is ex-SAS and is one of the youngest people to climb Everest. Saying that, some of the scenes in his shows are obviously set up. He doesn't pretend otherwise - he is there to entertain primarily and then to kind of show how people could survive certain conditions.

Ray Mears is the real deal for sure though. He is the asexual King of the Wild.

I <3 Tubby Mears.

Bob Mortimer did to Ray Mears though, what Lenny Henry did to David Bellamy. I just cant ever see Mears without thinking of Bob with a bollock hanging out.

nsfw by the way.... funny as feck though.

I'd agree with the majority on here...Bear is well ard, ex para, ex sas, where he was a freefall/Halo instructor - broke his back, in a jump accident, left the army then became the youngest climber ever to climb Mt Everest. Now hosts his own show - and yes there's things in there that are faked, and simulated, but on the whole isnt that the experience that the public want?

Ray on the other hand is completely mad, a real outdoors survivalist, he can whittle a canoe quicker than you can make a pot of nettle tea.

But his show cracks me up, as there he is demonstrating survival techniques and he's got his tent, and a wood-burning stove!!
in order to carry all that kit around he must be well fit. yet he looks a bit of a porker....he obviously eats too many acorns

Either way I find both shows enjoyable, and harmless...unless you're a beaver and see Bear walking toward you drooling at the mouth

All these shows have certain parts faked. Health and safety dictates what they can and cant do. TV shows these days have to abide by the law.
Grylls is by far the best of the bunch though. His shows (fake or otherwise) are very entertaining.
