There's nothing wrong with the occasional hoof or mixing it up a bit.
I think at the start of the season we had the mix perfect. It seemed once mirallas and Gibson got injured and our form dipped a little we started to do it too much.

Get the mix right and apply it in the right games and its a valuable weapon. Use it wrong and too much it's just hoof ball.

I never thought i would be saying this but i agree with you mate. good post. no one minds mixing it up but there are games when we do it far to much and put ourselves under a lot of pressure, especially towards the end of games when under pressure.

We were brilliant last night. Cant fault the manager for his selection and tactics and cant fault the players for their passion and performance. Swerve threads like this, absolutely pointless.

That's one of the main issues with Howard tho'. His openers hardly ever reach an Everton player and if they do it's often so that they can't control it to another Everton player. Yesterdays last minutes with Arsenal pressurising us was a fine display of that.

Howards the worst for it. A few times he could have rolled the ball to feet as Jan does but he waved everyone out and launched it.

Haha well we gota agree on something at some point.

To me a perfect example is the arsenal team of a few years back (Fabregas days) when without doubt they were the most exciting passing team in the league by far. We're great to watch but would always lose points against lesser teams they just couldn't break down and it cost them the league 2/3 times. If they had had a plan b to mix some long balls in there, someone on the bench big to aim at in those situations I think they would have had 3/4 more trophies in that period.

It's also why under Rogers Liverpool will never challange at the top..thank god!!

Blame this man for
Howards hoofing

Between Howard, Distin and Jags, their accuracy is dreadful, they don't even give the lads up top a chance half the time. If we do look for a new keeper, I hope we get one who can improve our distribution from the back, might not be the most important attribute for a keeper, but would make a nice change

It is more a case of good long balls and bad long balls. A long accurate pass is very effective. An aimless or poorly executed bunt forward is not so effective. Mixing styles is good, poor execution is bad. Back to distributuon school messrs. Jagielka and Howard...

I dunno sometimes. In the second half we won a fee kick on the right just inside Arsenal territory. The scene was set for a cross into the area for the big men to fight for. What happened? A short pass inside and then back and then possession was lost through carelessness.
What's the point of that?

Tim Howard and Jags are the worst offenders, some of those balls they hoof forward are a bit aimless. Always been a fan of the goalie rolling it out to a full back and getting the passes going, seems silly to give the ball always so cheaply.

i actually thought last night that jags tried to bring the ball out when he could and did ok. His ball for pienaar was superb and a couple of interceptions he made led to him travelling well into arsenals half with the ball and starting attacks. Also Howards the keeper for Christ sake , unless he has a defender offering himself what option does he have. Needles thread this one.
