Lukaku

Yes, but that's not a proper assessment of good service is it - if you're telling me contemporary strikers are expensive, then I'm telling you the best of them are also expected to do more than merely finish. Just because he gets it in some unfavourable position - haven't looked at the heatmap yet - doiesn't mean the rest of the team are failing him, it should be called getting involved in the build-up. Say, for example, there's a hypothetical goal that happens after 10 passes, right? And the 10th pass is cross/cutback/through ball that goes straight to Lukaku for him to smash it in, but pass #6 of that move is for Lukaku but into feet with his back to goal; if he lays the ball back then spins round the move carries on and it comes back to him to score. Now, almost every time he gets at #6 he gives the ball away and the move breaks down. We'll never know if the team could have set him up with more goals.

Yakubu, for the record, had superb link-up play and was really good on the ball.

I don't know where to start, there's just nothing right about your post, sorry.

Apart from the Yakubu bit, I miss his smile, boss finisher.

Check the heatmap, it's not a good read. He's a centre forward, not a winger or a player who should be running to the corner flags like Marcus Bent.

Now proving himself and his goal scoring stats for a team as bad as us are fine, no qualms from me, still think we over paid but im sure a lot of it will be add ons such as winning a cup or CL qualification and that wont happen any time soon

There is just no way in the modern game playing as we do that it's possible to accomodate a player like that. It's just handicapping the rest of the team. The team don't purposefully play balls into the corner for him to chase, it's merely where the space is, and he has to be able to utilise that for his teammates if he can't do so for himself. It's crazy how much of a free pass he's given, it seems.

Works for Chelsea with Costa, City with Aguero, worked with Nistlerooy at United. And I'd say he has more movement than those players. We have plenty of attacking players around him.

We're simply missing a number 10 to feed him the final pass. Don't blame Lukaku, blame the fact that we are missing this key player.

Am I lone dissenting voice in considering him our worst player this season? I tear my hair out watching him, inept by any standards, yet when you marry it with that transfer fee... why? why?! We should have spent it so much better. If this is just a bad run of form then it's one hell of an extended one because it really has felt like every or almost every game from the start of the season to tonight he's been rubbish. Is it just me?

Yeah you need to watch other players rather than just criticise Rom. If you watch him during any game he does a hell of a lot of running off the ball, wins his fair share in the air and does get goals, without those we would be in the crap. He makes early runs but nobody sees him and the ball goes back, it must be very frustrating to keep doing it and hardly get the ball. We played to Rom's strengths at Wolfsberg and he was brilliant running At the defence and caused panic plus he scored & made one. It's tough playing up front on your own & if you don't get support from midfield you can look like a bit of a mug.
If the crowd get on to him then his confidence will just drain away and he will struggle and we'll lose his goals, not something we need.

I really want to believe this, and it may turn out to be true eventually, but at the moment he has a long way to go to match any of those players.

Shouldn't you be called Danka?

I mean he gets around the park more, not the 18 yard box. Probably phrased that wrong. You wouldn't see Costa on the half way line on the touchline. He doesn't need to go looking for the ball because he's getting good service. We've got to feed Lukaku better.
