Lukaku interview about Anelka - liverpool fans kicking up....

Ha! Nice term: "recreationally offended". Bloody loads of them, everywhere.

The thing is, the recreationally offended are the most important proles in the land. They can make or break prominent people, with the help from the mainstream media.

See also Glenn Hoddle.

It's almost irrelevant what the quenelle actually represents. It's more important to be aware of what people think it represents.

Truth doesn't matter. It's the perception that matters.

Sherlock fans, that was the inspiration for the Magnusson character.

Or maybe offensive gestures are designed to offend, and it works.

Re: Lukaku, we really shouldn't worry. He's not come off this negatively (save for a few hysterical kopites).

Everton TV did the right thing in taking it offline, not because it was offensive, but just to avoid this perception-based recreationally-offended media orgy.

Anelka's still a tit who was wilfully provocating. But the salute itself should be commandeered by those fighting for the rights of Palestinians, and make it implicitly clear that it's not anti-Zionist, or anti-semitic. It's pro-humanity.

There's no excuse for Anelka, and Sakho doing that salute. It is a fascist salute.

be arsed what liverpool fans think about everton as a club.

they're just bitter that they can't do anything right so look for any little thing to degrade us.

we acted great over hillsborough, they should shut the **** up.

What about the fingers over the face gestures? And if you say you haven't seen them you've never been the derby lad.

Something cannot be inherently offensive though. To be offended is a conscious decision.

If someone calls you a b**** c*** that is inherently offensive.

There's no difference to calling someone a j***sh c***.

Or a w**** c***. Just the same.

Racism is racism is racism.

Regardless of how hidden within innuendo it is. i.e. some 'salute'

A tiny tiny tiny minority. We're talking 10 people absolute max have made that gesture at any one time. I've seen the photos in question and been to a fair few derbys.

I was also to the Newcastle home match where we put on an Amazing tribute and at the semi final where every blue ****er in the stadium was silent.

We have been nothing short of fantastic about hillsborough, bar a few of society's idiots and we should be proud of it. I don't think any other rival of any other club would do what we've done for them. I don't think anyone should expect any less of us like, but society is messed up these days. We've gone above and beyond to give our support to those ungrateful bitter **** stirring bastards with very little thanks apart from those who KNOW,which unfortunately is very few of them as most of them have absolutely no connection to the city whatsoever.

The lads who do that kind of gesture are all young lads. Absolute bellends but they need to be educated on it properly because they quite clearly dont have a clue, they get their opinion from the internet, which is also full of young bellends spouting off and it becomes tit for tat.

No proper evertonian would ever make a gesture like that.

On the whole, efcnik is spot on, we have made some amazing tributes and we are thier best friends in world football when it comes to hillsborough. To be fair to them, they have made excellent gestures in the past themselves - think Rhys Jones and Maddy McCann.

Calling someone a Jewish c*** isn't racist, but it is offensive. I hate how society doesn't understand this. You are identifying someone by one of their traits and then offending them by calling them an unpleasant name. The two words are completely unrelated.

If you said "I don't like X because they are Jewish as I don't like Jewish people because they are all c****", that is racist, because you are categorising one person/a group of people under their race/religion and directly offending them for being members of that party.

Yes it is racist.

When it comes to tragedies the overwhelming majority of this city stands together. It makes you proud really, cos not many other places in this country would do the same.

I never knew what it meant until the media poured all over it and explained. Mountain=molehill.

Just think of things like the series 'Allo, 'Allo and the gestures and language innuendo in that.

Like you say it becomes tit for tat. So why is this thread now about moral point-scoring against kopites? Those in the red corner having a go at us for Lukaku's comments are seriously in the wrong. We shouldn't even humour them with a response. If we go on about Hillsborough, they'll go on about "murderers". And so it goes...tit for tat.

When the debate shouldn't even be about the red side, in my opinion. We should be looking to understand the gesture and the 'offence taken'.

Not sure how I got infracted.

I was just showing how offensive racism is regardless of race.

Anelka should know better.

Liverpool fans on twitter and Everton forums very interested in this interview it seems. And that's fine, because we love them and tolerate their stupidity and casual racism, for they know not what they do.
