Lukaku interview about Anelka - liverpool fans kicking up....

Is it very widespread? I'll admit I'm not prone to making gestures of any kind, but I'd never seen or heard of it until this thing with Anelka cropped up.

Nor had bloming hardly anyone in this country.....including some Jewish friends of mine.

This whole think is just a load of tripe but the F.A. have become so much the bitch of the PC mob they are afraid to just say sod off to them as wants Anelka put in the stocks.

Anelka has been causing trouble all his career. He's known to be into politics, and he's a Muslim. He knew exactly what he was doing.

The most common reason for doing the salute is to show solidarity with the Palestinians in their ongoing Troubles with Israel. While that cause is just and fair, some take it too far and begin spreading hate-speech against the Jews (of which that french comedian is guilty).

Anelka understands all this, but Lukaku likely doesn't.

I wouldn't worry about Lukaku getting bad press over it, the media don't care enough about us.

But they "care enough" about Baggies to make a big thing over the issue in the first place?

I dont think it's that, the media have already reported it. They just wont labour the incident because they deal in binary opposites in their world, and they associate Liverpool with the racist footballers. It's how they operate. Suarez has seen to that. Good old Luis.

be arsed what liverpool fans think about everton as a club.

they're just bitter that they can't do anything right so look for any little thing to degrade us.

we acted great over hillsborough, they should shut the **** up.

Honestly - who really gives a toss what some past it footballer does as a celebration. Even if it was bollocks what happened to freedom of speech. PC brigade gone mad over nothing in my opinion.

I don't care one bit.

I can see why WBA and the FA would care, as they gave him a football platform and he politicized it, costing them financially.

Here are Lukaku's comments, as reported by Metro. Silly comments, showing Rom's ignorance on the issue, but not likely to lump him in with Anelka.

He [Anelka] was my idol since I was a kid, and still is,’ Lukaku told Everton TV.

‘He shouldn’t be banned for that. He just supported a stand-up comedian in France, so we don’t have to make such a big deal about it.

‘I hope he doesn’t get suspended because he’s a player people want to see play on the pitch.’

Of course, the issue (depending on what you believe) is that Anelka was not 'just support[ing] a stand-up comedian in France,' and that Anelka knows what the gesture means and what he was doing making the gesture. Maybe Anelka was simply supporting his friend, but when you friend has been prohibited from public appearances because of antisemitic comments and gestures, and you use the same gesture in your support of the friend, it's hard to support such a glaim.

20-year old in naive comment alert. It happens. He clearly doesn't think it's an issue, like 99% of us, he was just foolish to openly say it.

Edit: He'll deffo get a 20-game ban now though, just enough to cover up to the cup final now if we get there ;)

Hate speech against any race/religion/nationality of people is rightfully censored and outlawed. For hate speech against such is how many crimes against humanity were justified.

jesus wept, leave it out will ya? This is about Anelka, Lukaku and the quenelle gesture. Where did you get kopites and Hillsborough from? Self-congratulating ourselves on how we acted over Hillsborough in this thread is inappropriate.

For those interested in the quenelle, here's the Wiki for it:

Hes not really done anything wrong but it puts the club in am embarassing position now.

We have reacted well, taking the video off and relaseing a statement but on the other hand, deleting the video isnt going to please Lukaku.

This, entirely. It's one thing to not know a comment is entirely offensive. Like the Welsh and sheep, seems funny to me but I'm not sure if that's an offensive association (Kurt?). But I'm quite certain that you can't call someone a 'Coon, or at least you can't use that phrase with a US audience. Lukaku's ignorance is one thing, but Anelka's intentional use of the phrase is a different matter.
