Everton are interested in taking 27 year old FC Porto midfielder 'Lucho' Luis González to Goodison Park this summer.
Many rumours are circulating around Goodison Park at the moment. The big name stars, Joaquin, Arshavin, Jo, Dudu, are reportedly names that Everton manager David Moyes has taken a shine to. Cardiff duo Ramsey and Ledley are young talent that Moyes is trying to sign - But one key name that is being whispered on the terraces is the potential signing of Argentine playmaker Lucho Gonzalez.
The Porto midfielder Lucho is understood to recently have been jaded and feels that a move abroad may suit him. With the current climate in football where solely English and Spanish clubs succeed in Europe would probably be enough to persuade the Argentina midielder to come to Goodison to help Everton with their quest of returning to the dizzy heights of the Champions League. In the three seasons Gonzalez has spent at Porto since his 3 million pound move from River (reportedly for only half the player, the other rights went to Global Soccer Agencies) he has found the back of the net 23 times from his central midfield role in 87 outings - Lucho scored a penalty in the Champions League group stage against in a 1-1 draw with Liverpool.
Last summer Everton had a bid in the region of 11 million pounds rejected by the Portugese club. Back then it showed serious ambition and made a statement to other clubs that this was the type of player the Toffees were after, and that they felt they could attract. The Argentine international played a part in the succesful 2006 world cup campaign that saw the Argentina national team reach the quater finals only to be knocked out by the Germans. 'El Commandante' as Lucho is known has scored 5 national goals in around 40 appearances.
In the last year since Everton's approach there have been rumours that Real were intending to make a bid, but they petered out, and it still seems Everton are in the driving seat for the potential signature of the experienced midfielder.
Everton are now behind the scenes ready to move back in for Lucho, to play in that vital centre midfield role that needs filling.
Everton will hope to close in on the talented Argentina international midfielder during the summer, although this deal, if there is more interest in him from the Toffees., could go down to the wire.
Is their really any chance we'll get any of these big names bounded around with us???
I really hope at least one would come are way!!
