Benitez played politics again today.

Could have easily said 'Digne is ill, not available, but he has trained and would be in the starting XI if not'. But put in 'Digne said he was ill' instead.

I mean, not like there aren't games being called off for COVID left, right and centre. Yet you've got some of our thick fans who are convinced footy hasn't moved on since the 1980s thinking Benitez was right all along now cause Digne has 'pulled a sickie'.

As much as I dislike Benitez, tbf I can't blame him for the section of our fanbase that can't see the wood for the trees I suppose.

EDIT: Whether Digne has genuinely phoned it in or not is beside the point. I don't think he has, I think if he's ill he's ill. But could all have been avoided if Benitez hadn't been so obsessed with making a point.

Maybe it’s Digne that’s the problem here. He’s been toilet for 18 mths. New manager comes in with new ideas, Digne doesn’t like it so sulks. He’s managing a team of millionaires he has to set an example by dropping players who don’t tow the line.

If they were good tactics he should be able to impart his knowledge and convince Digne of their merit. If he can't convince an international footballer of the merit of his tactics then there is must be some flaw in them. He's not changing so drop anyone who may think differently and it must be said, knows his team mates strengths and weaknesses better than Benitez does at this stage I'd imagine. Coleman said Carlo came into the dressing room before the anfield derby last year and asked the players how they were going to win? Just a thought

Agree, which why the muppet currently in charge should be using his (apparent) managerial skills to keep him interested and involved.
I’ve never heard of any attitude problems with Digne before.
I wonder if the manager has ever had issues before….

There is evidence that Digne is a good professional and there is evidence that Benitez is someone who regularly falls out with players.

I know who's story I believe. And it's not the person who deliberately chose to hang a player out to dry publicly. Digne should be allowed to leave because his treatment has been shoddy.

Nope. Sorry. I have ALWAYS argued that defenders defend first and get forward second.

His crosses are very good when he's in form...but that hasn't been the case for a while...not helped this season by DCL not playing.

He chooses not to do what the manager asks him to do. Fine. I choose to call him a rat and want him to GTF out of the club ASAP.

It boils down to who you believe, do you believe a millionaire footballer who wants to play better football or do you believe a millionaire football manager who plays with no intent on attacking football, do you believe a millionaire footballer who left the best team in the world to play more football and is totally respectful of the fans,or do you believe a millionaire manager who disregards what the paying fans want,. And finally, do you believe a millionaire footballer who went out onto the streets to help victims of a terrorist attack or do you believe a millionaire football manager who in his late 50s chose to leave his family behind and went to a country that has the most appalling human rights in the world, working for government backed billionaires so he can become an even richer millionaire!
