I know mate. He also won trophies at those clubs too.
But a lot of us have been calling for a manager who'll pull rank on this team of spineless so and sos.
Most of the fan base agree there's an attitude problem with the team. Ancelotti said so, as did Seamus Coleman.
To address that, you're going to have to confront a few.
Imagine 20 something multi millionaire footballers having egos.
Maybe Digne felt braver than most knowing we had no other left back, and his transfer away would be to a more competitive club.
I just don't believe Benitez's side of this story because of the precedent. I also don't think that style of management works anymore because (rightly or wrongly) modern footballers don't react well to being publicly criticised and called out in front of their peers.
You can confront players absolutely, but Digne should have then been back in the squad on Sunday, at least as a sub. To completely ostracise him is shoddy in my opinion, especially when so many players have been so much worse than him for so long.
I'd also be more concerned if there weren't training ground arguments when his tactics had led us to 5 points from a possible 30.
This is a manager who regularly falls out with players, and players better than Lucas Digne too. So I can't take him seriously and I can't look past that. The whole situation is becoming totally toxic. We are sleepwalking into trouble here under this manager and it's horrible to see.
