They did yeah, they had about 15 corners because they kept getting in behind and making us make last ditch blocks and clearances. If you’re defending well that doesn’t happen.

It does happen though. Would you rather the cross makes it to the box?

Losing the ball and not having possession can't be put on a full back. Every player ahead of him was incapable of holding the ball. They did not have many chances in the game whatsoever, a few sniffs here and there but nothing Pickford couldn't stop apart from the worldie. Reality is defenders always gonna have to do a hell of a lot more work when the midfield are completely incompetent.

Works in the same way as defending a corner, if you bring everybody back you're almost guaranteeing a second wave of attack if the ball is headed out. A poor midfield will result in defenders having to defend waves.

I’d rather we didn’t let balls be played inside the full backs or that they didn’t let themselves get rinsed really. If you think we defended well today then fine, I won’t try and change your mind. I would disagree massively though, I thought we looked shaky every time they attacked, just because they didn’t make more of it Doesn’t mean it didn’t happen.

'looking shaky' isn't being shaky though. They had very little chances becuase the defenders kept making the blocks required.

We defended the balls inside the fall backs, the back four did at least becuase they got the blocks in etc. The biggest issue was down to the midfield letting those passes be made over, and over, by losing their battlies (or not even trying to compete today!) and giving aces to do what they want.

Not sure the midfield put a tackle in after the goal.

As I said, I disagree. Making last ditch blocks is ok, knowing where runners are and being able to tackle is better. We muddled through until they broke us down, in my opinion we never looked in control at any point. The midfield was terrible but it doesn’t excuse everyone else. Digne has been poor all season, I thought he was superb last year but he’s been no better than the others this year so he doesn’t get a pass from me. Sorry.

I completely agree with 'looking in control' but for me that comes down from the midfield doing their job.

Just can't see how Digne can be getting any blame for today.

Do not apologise for having an opinion Sir. ;)

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not blaming him for the loss, not at all. Just saying he’s not been playing well, and his performances last year can’t protect him from criticism forever.

What has happened to him??? At one point last season, thought he was the best LB in the league. Everton usually only has this effect on strikers. I guess the stink permeates to everyone eventually.

Said a while back the Digne is an average+ defender who is good at supporting our forward play. He struggled against Liverpool but, to be fair to him, he's been out of sorts this season for one reason or the other.
