Regarding the 'We go the game' tag, everyone knows it's what the perception on Merseyside has been for years.

Locally-based Evertonians, with somewhat of a keen interest in the club, by and large, do actually 'go to the game' (at Goodison).

Many locally-based Liverpool fans, generally, say 'I used to go but I can't get a ticket now' or 'I used to go but its too expensive now'.

There is some actual evidence backing this up, in terms of, you ask any of the hotels in the city centre, or any of the taxi drivers in the city, and nearly will tell you that their business is significantly boosted whenever Liverpool is at home, compared to when Everton is at home, indicating that tourists travel in for the game.

The second bit of evidence is highly visual - you look along the side of the road at Stanley Park before and during a Liverpool home game - the entire road is just full of coaches, most of which are for home supporters travelling up from outside the area. There is nowhere close to the same amount of 'outside-the-area' fans coming to Goodison for Everton home games.

There was also the National Football Fans survey from a few years back, which found that Everton have amongst the highest number of season ticket holders living within a 12 mile radius of the ground of any club in the country.

Hence, the tag 'We go the game' being applicable for Everton fans, and local Liverpool fans being well known to be lampooned as 'armchair supporters'.

Exactly, that's what I don't like, I don't like to say its small time, when rest of video is brilliant but it just lets us all down and whether that's he true aim of the video, I dunno.

I can see what you're saying, and I suppose it is a somewhat subtle dig, as in 'We go the game'. To an outsider with no clue, they're probably thinking, 'You go the game? So what? That's what fans are supposed to do anyway', not realising what the jibe is. Similar to the Liverpool One Everton store being called 'Everton 2'.

Some might think it's clever, others might think it's a bit small time. I suppose it is how people want to take it. The way I see it, Liverpool FC and plenty of Liverpool FC-related pundits/famous people take regular jibes and make remarks about Everton, so it could be seen as a jibe back, as in banter. There'll be those that say we 'shouldn't care what the red s---- say' and that we should focus on ourselves.... but where's the fun in that?;)

Can't believe some of the cack about this "going the game" stuff.

Like it or not the heart of our club is the city of Liverpool, the North West and North Wales a survey some years ago had the highest % of "walk ups" to the game ie "locals" as our club.

At over 90% it dwarfed the next highest club which came in at the high 70% mark.

If you don't get this regarding the whole ethos of the club well best I refrain from saying what I really think.

I've got no issue with the club being proud of the fact that the local support is strong, i think it's brilliant and should be pointed out at every opportunity.

I just find 'We go the game' sounds a bit weird when the rest of the english in the ad is pronounced like the Queen's English. I say 'Are you going the game' etc. all the time, but i wouldn't type it like that.

It was only a little thing, for me anyway.

Fair enough mate just someone mentioned "small time" and I couldn't think of anything further from the truth ie actually celebrating the essence of who we are can never be small time imo.

Brilliant.

And it's an ad to sell season tickets. Of course it's going to be targeted towards locals.

I'd like an international version too. Aussies drinking coffee at 4AM to stay up, Yanks rolling out of bed at 6AM to catch that "noon kickoff", some continental blues walking from their house to the European away game.

But that's a different issue entirely, and it sure wouldn't be an ad about selling season tickets. :P
