Lookman’s future unclear

Hardly a glowing recommendation is it?

Y'know, while I've been massively disappointed with Bolasie since his return (he's evidently scared to open his legs fully and that is kind of understandable due to the injury), if you watch our last few goals, he's involved in the vast majority of them.

He's been crap, but when he gets his head up and delivers a cross does tend to cause defender's issues.

Isn't nearly consistent enough but more than willing to see how he does in pre-season - which is something he hasn't yet had at Everton, remember - and at the start of next term.

He shouldn't be a guaranteed starter though and if it was a straight choice I'd rather have Lookman.

The thing with Bolasie is, he'll always be involved most of the goals when he plays simply because of how he plays. If you watch when we're breaking forward, Bolasie will more often than not just hold his position and wait for the ball - he doesn't make runs to drag people away or to get in behind himself, he just asks for the ball to his feet so he can sling a cross in. He offers very little in terms of link up play, and he's not very good at attacking the box when the balls on the other side of the pitch, so he doesn't give other players many options. When he plays, we tend to just give him the ball and he crosses it until one of them finds its target and we score, and he gets another assist. He's playing like an American Football player, just contributing to one aspect rather than the team as a whole. Someone else could play that role and get less assists, but the team would play an awful lot better as a unit.

Whether that player is Lookman i'm not sure. I've been disappointed with him in the main if i'm honest. For every exciting sub appearance like the derby, there have been others where he's looked a bit out of his depth to be honest, and he hasn't exactly set the world alight at Leipzig, who are now in a fairly similar position to us in the Bundesliga. He's obviously young and has plenty of time to learn, but I don't get the clamour for him to be playing all the time.

I'd imagine he's waiting to see who our manager will be next year, the utter balls up of transfers last summer has sen a lot of players feel alienated.
