Loaning Young Players Abroad rather then In the UK.

The key is to first ensure they are going to a club where they are going to get game time, and in that respect “ foreign clubs” seem to have a better reputation for playing youngsters , so it looks a great idea if we pick the right clubs. Of the U23s centre backs Feeney and Gibson need to go out on loan and then of our young midfielders two out of Baningime , Adeniran and Markelo should be loaned , just who will depend on if Silva has any first team squad plans for them. I’d be happy to see any of them playing in a foreign league on loan at the right club.
Virginia is a slightly different case , but he may generate loan interest from a 2nd Tier Portuguese club.

In my opinion, the preference of loan moves should go:

Premier League Clubs
Top European League Clubs
Teams with real chances of getting promoted from the Championship
Lower League European Clubs
Lower League English Clubs
I think top European Leagues is more important that top clubs. Obviously, ideally I'd like our lads to go to top clubs but Schalke isn't a top club and Kenny is progressing very nicely there.

Its these type of subtle nuances i like to see, ive given a bit of criticism to Brands recently, but these type of innovations and networking give me some hope on brains trust in our recruitment dept.

Fair play.

We have seen with Ade, that these type of deals can be hugely advantageous for the club and player. though i would have kept Ade myself.

Im actually looking at lads on loan in the championship, like Bowler, Dowell and Virgina, its doing them no favors at all really.

Look at Dowell in particualr he was in that World Cup winning team with Ade and Sancho, look at how the trajectory of their careers/value/profile/deals in moving to Germany as opposed to Dowells who has had what 3 loans in the Championship at this stage.
Think Dowell's game would suit Belgium or Holland and possibly with regular games his confidence would grow enough for a career in the Premier League.

I ain’t no expert on what constitutes a top club these days, I have seen us in my lifetime win the league, FA Cup and although I wasn’t there on the night, win a European trophy. By that reckoning, Everton in my mind, are a top club - but realise everyone can see it differently.

Im no supporter of Schalke, but I can understand why they see themselves as a top club. I saw them play Dortmund a few years back and know they play in front of 60,000 every week, have no debt, have won their league on several occasions, plus their cup a few times and won a European trophy. So, have every right to see themselves as big as Everton.

I ain’t the one deciding here, but to say Schalke aren’t a big club, it depends on how you call it. If it’s along the lines I see Everton, they are very much the same.....and on many measures, bigger. Just saying.

But in terms of the exposure the German League gets globally and the TV money they receive, of course they fall behind Everton.....but by many measures they are a top club and it seems an ideal environment forJJK to develop. On the face of it, seems a great loan that is working for us and them.

That is more than fair. I meant more along the lines of a league than team. The Bundesliga is a top league, even if it's a team going to get relegated they have a lot more exposure to different and top level football than if they were in League 1.

I think the important thing is that they play at a decent level, often when our young players go to championship teams they are used as back up for the first team, rather than Kenny who is first choice. To me it's better to send them somewhere where they can play 30 or more games over a season

Yeah this for me. They will only learn and get better playing week in and week out. Better the standard they are playing is a bonus. Kenny for example is the perfect one playing every week in a good league for a big club in front of big crowds all this helps.

I'm surprised it's taken this long to do it, other clubs have been using Holland and Belgium for beards for loan players. It's definitely a model I'm onboard with. Too much expectancy and media pressure over here and managers unwilling to really risk youth players even if senior players aren't performing.

....home or abroad, loanees are usually sent on loan before being sold or not have their contracts renewed. The very best youngsters are kept at Finch Farm and used.

That's not really the case Eggs, players are sent out on loan to see if they are capable of making the pro step up, it just so happens that a lot are found wanting and so end up being sold. I wouldn't say that is the reason they are loaned out, although in some cases it would be that reason obviously.

Nobody must have told Silva,or Schneiderlin would never get a start.

....I’m old and can only think of two Academy loanees who have gone on and played 50 games for us, and both of those had serious injuries at a key stage in their development. History suggests the youngsters we send on loan have no future at the club.

History also didn't have Marcel Brands. So history is no longer a good indicator.

....that’s a very good point, perhaps we’ll see the loan system used to greater affect. Saying that, I do believe that when we have a genuinely top youngster a club like ours will want to use him.
