Truly it is strange. My suspicion is she thinks it was her own innate genius that got her there, in spite of her school. She's just standing up for the lesser beings who need the help.
The school matters of course, but there's a stack of other factors thst help kids get on and into better universities. Extra tuition, extra curricular cultural activities etc.
FFS this is like David Brent's motivational speech in The Office.

There's a good article about this somewhere on the Guardian site from a few weeks ago that talks about the school where she went.
It's written by an ex pupil of the school who was in the school at the same time as Truss and is now a teacher there.
The bottom line is that the school was and is a high performing school in a well to do part of Leeds that she did well enough out of to get to Oxford and she's misrepresenting her background.
