They don't gain them much customers, so they don't care, same as how they didn't care about shankley after he'd left.

Sums Liverpool up really.

All this boring stuff about women's football being rubbish etc, who cares if it is or isn't? In my opinion a football club should be there to provide opportunities for everyone in their community, it should be about more than just the men's team.

I am glad I support a club who understands that. I have no real inclination to watch disability football for example but I would be fuming if we got rid of our teams as I find them important to have.

I would hate to support an uninclusive team, actually I probably wouldn't...

Funnily enough our women's team was pretty badly neglected and it led to us getting relegated to the second tier and a bunch of our players leaving

At the time Liverpool could offer far more than we could, so they actually poached a bunch of players at the time, so seeing their plight now makes it hard not to indulge in some schadenfreude

Our ladies team could be far better supported by the club overall though, so it's not really like we have much right to sneer at other clubs. Our women's team are pretty much as middle of the pack as it gets and could do with far more investment and support. We went from being one of the top sides in the women's game to being also rans in the space of a decade because the game changed and evolved and we didn't care to keep pace with it

The women's game can be quite tough to keep hold of players too because they don't get paid loads (in many cases barely enough to live off) so if a female player has no ties to the area she will more than likely go to where pays the best or gets the most exposure.

Our teams problem was we kept at an even keel in many ways. We happened to get a good bunch of players in at the same time but didnt adapt to keep hold of them for long enough. Typically of us we missed the boat timing wise.

There seems to be a bit more investment these days, they have signed a couple of fairly high profile players relatively speaking. Going to be hard for them to grow though if they are playing games on Wally Hall Park...

Disagree a lot with this - our ladies team was one of the better ones before the WSL (and the money) came along, with the club doing quite a bit before it was the trendy thing to do. Once the money came in, the choice was to compete with City / Chelsea etc or to try and continue what they were doing and they chose the second option.

No one's arsed about women's footy as it's crap.
Liverpool are current European champions and have strolled the Prem.
I think they have their priorities right personally, I'm sure others disagree.
I don't agree, I think the women's world cup was really enjoyable, and I've watched Everton women a few times when they've been on TV and enjoyed those games too.

Inclusivity at all levels to sports is massively important to a society and can positivly impact lives in ways we can't really imagine on the face of it, to have that inclusivity you need prominant role models. Some nasty arrogance both at that club and in this thread towards womans sport.

I wish i liked it, I don't want to dislike it, but it's just a bit crap compared to the mens.

They've improved loads in recent years - only a decade ago I was proper cringing at "international" goalkeepers.

I'll be completely honest mate, I don't watch it at all. But like you say the progress has been huge at all levels, there wasn't even girls leagues that I ever noticed when I was playing but now there seems to be as many as the lads. Same in the boxing gyms, I never watch any womens boxing but there are loads of girls coming into the gym and loving the sport.
