At least we turned up and tried to make a fight of it. Put some good moves together at times. Floored by the almost obligatory sucker punch from that lot.
There's always controversy with them. Very dubious penalty decision (expected), intimidated ref (expected), sucker late goal (expected) and to cap it all, signs of racial abuse. The only thing missing was a red card for one of our players, (expected that to happen first).
Based on team performance alone, we deserved more from this game than most of the games we've played all season.

Just got home, voted for Jags as MOTM so it's no surprise to see him well ahead in the poll. I thought Kenny and Holgate did well too, as did Lookman when he came on. I presume it was actually a penalty ? Looked very soft like, but you're asking for trouble if you touch or hold someone in the penalty area.

Their defence had been winning headers all night, so it wasn't really a massive surprise when they scored .. ffs
Decent performance, and the Lower An. road end was ace when we scored. Quarter of an hour to queue to get in wasn't so ace, nor was ten minutes to get to the bog at half time either. That stand's a bloody disgrace ... thankfully it's normally only once a year

All the pundits unanimously agreed it wasn't a pen at half time (wasn't watching at full time). Lallana collapses like a tower of cards. Holgate's arm is across him, there is contact, but not enough for him to go down like he did.
Ref had a weird one.

Sure Shearer and Reid said it wasn't a pen?

Lookman looked dangerous on the ball and we dont have anyone as mercurial as that - how he does not get a game every week in a team that has no creativity in the final third is beyond me.

Bolasie offered the only attacking threat flin the first half and the second half until Lookman came on. Started the move for the goal too by hustling for the ball and getting it out wide for Lookman.

...again, I liked the post-match Allardyce interview a lot.

We were competitive, we were not Lilly livered and pathetic. We defended well, but we kept possession better than in the league game. The substitutions were very positive. The Rooney substitution was also brave and paid dividends with Sigurdsson getting around and beyond DCL.

I read all the ‘one shot on target’ shouts and find them a bit ignorant if i’m honest. It’s not the fault of tactics that we don’t have the quality to deliver better crosses from very good wide positions, it’s not the fault of tactics that DCL struggles to be on the front foot and attack the ball in the box. It’s the lack of quality.

Lots of encouraging performances but Jagielka is a top professional who produced a top performance. He gets my MoM.
