What is this fascination people have of trying to ram square pegs into round holes.
Bernard has rarely if ever played on the right
Its not FIFA ,its real life
Ok you asked...a chance to indulge my inner geek
Firstly, if we bought a winger who can only play on one side, sack em all.
Secondly check out the early parts of the vid below, if its good enough for Brazil its good enough for us.
Sure the left is preferred but I don't see Bernard as a preference player...he offers flexibility in set up and strategy. Just bc Silva tends towards the inflexible at the moment, doesn't make it right. Case in point is Richarlison - a few posters suggested moving Richo to the right earlier on last season and a similar response to yours was given, I'm sure a FIFA jibe was thrown in. After Silva was left with no other option he finally did it and it helped turned the season around.
Kean subbing in for Richo is better than subbing in for DCL. There should at least be rotation here and its a good match to do it in. Also by reducing the amount of time Richo plays it'll put more focus his quality of play - while he gets up to full energy. And by playing in the 9 I'm sure he'll get the chance to bury a header and get the chance to put the Villa demons to rest. He's a confidence player and he needs chances to turn it around. I think he thrives on pressure as well and knowing Kean will be coming on off the back of him will spur him on to perform. The team needs him back to his best asap.
Digne and Iwobi could be a winning combination. Iwobi can give the side a lot of drive, quickness of movement, strength up the left, but if its left up to him it'll become predictable, stifled. Digne solves that. They could be the perfect foils for each other, could be the perfect partners in crime. They'll give the side a lot more to play with.
Sig has to play deeper. Silva has rendered him ineffective. What he's doing with him has got worse not better. If Sig played second fiddle to the Iwobi-Digne show it'll allow him to do what he's good at, pick his moments, bring vision back into his game, use his passing to send through players who are going to actually do something with it. He can play either side of the 6 in a 3 man mid. From either side he can find those moments to run into space in the center and score from the edge of the box, rather than being sat upon. He is simply too good to be left out. As JP is injured and Delph is filling in the center, Sig should go to the left; with Delph covering the left, his more natural side, as Sig moves into space or rotates with the forwards.
Davies needs playing time and should be given a start over Gomes on the right of the 3 man mid. The combination of Davies, Coleman and Bernard is worth trying. They should be able to keep a tempo and work good rotation into the play. Davies has less of a freer role than Sig but that should simplify and suit his game. I think he'll work better with Delph than Schniderlin or Gana. He'll have Coleman there to keep things sound and if things are working well then Sidibe can come on.
The reality is that we need to be playing to the strengths of the team as a whole.
