..I assume the Coaches didn’t think he was good enough. I never saw him in match day squads (not necessarily part of the team but involved for development purposes). The other indicator for me was that he never went with the squad for warm weather training in Dubai some time ago (when he wasn’t injured).

I liked his time at Yeovil because they absolutely loved him but for whatever reasons he wasn’t near the first team at Everton.
My view on this is that I didn’t rate Koeman at all as a manager so to be honest I’m ignoring all of that and judging him on what I’ve seen of him over the years. In my view we’ve made a mistake and I’m sick of seeing completely ordinary senior players getting multiple opportunities to perform absolute garbage and no opportunities given to Walsh.

I also think he’s been handled badly. After the Yeovil loan, Bolton were desperate to take him on loan. It would have been another league up (plus they ended getting promoted to the Championship) but we refused it because we wanted him to go to a championship team. Instead he didn’t get a loan and spent a whole season in the U23’s. Then we sent him on his disastrous loan to Birmingham where Rednapp got sacked after 3 or 4 games! We’ve then not even inserted a buy back clause in his contract. All in all I can’t help but think we’ve made a bit of a balls up.

Was at the game last night, thought he looked very very tidy.

Didn't lose the ball once, and could tell from just that cameo that he's extremely technically gifted. Got stuck in as well, harried his man and pressed really well. Really pleased for him. Hopefully more to come.

Re buy back clause. Do you know this for certain?

Very promising cameo from Liam last night - can we activate out buy-back clause yet? If we bothered to put one in that is.

His first touch in a BC shirt would have had Pep rubbing his eyes thinking it was Messi: 1st time delicate chip forward over an opponent and straight into the path of a teammate. Would love to see Messrs. Gana, scneiderlin, McCarthy, and Davies do that just once, let alone with their first touch of the ball.

I'm super lazy. Where can I find highlights of this?

Stop it mate you're making me feel even worse than i was :(

I’m hearing that we opted against implementing a buy back clause to get more money up front.

I despair at this club sometimes I really do despair.
Brain dead decision to sell him and an even worse one to not have a buy back clause. Not like they paid us millions is it? Indeed as Barca have shown they've bought players back and then sold him on for even more money.

Can't say that i'm surprised at my assumption above regarding no buy back clause was true.

Just catching up on this thread, and it’s made me feel more depressed with our club. I’ll accept that there are things we don’t see that the coaches do, but Walsh never even got a decent crack at playing in the Championship to see if he could deliver. It’s hard not to compare his case with Joe Williams, who’s a year older , now showing his ability and we sensibly rejected Barnsley’s offer to buy to keep him on loan. Sometime we too are going to have to let this thread go too, sigh.

Good debut for Liam despite the result. His manager's verdict:

“I thought Walsh was excellent. I thought you could see what he was all about. He’s a real good footballer, he’s got awareness, he’s tough, he hit a couple of big tackles, and he put his head in.
He can go home proud of himself.
Walsh is a good little project for me, given that I was a midfielder myself."

Hope he keeps it up!
