Our recent history is not good with strikers, what’s there even to argue about. We get it, you want some unknown Belgian lad for £5million.

I think we can all associate with that mate. Over the past 10 years we've had, what, 7, 8 managers? And none of them had any real renown (or time!) for coaching and developing players - perhaps with the notable exception of Ancelotti, who to be fair had always been at a club where he could buy quality.

One thing we should not overlook now is Moyesie's capabilities here. He is widely regarded as being responsible for the impressive development of Jarred Bowen and Declan Rice, amongst others. Even in the short time he's been with us this time round, the turnaround in many of our players' quality and effectiveness is apparent (Beto being the screaming example). Had DCL not got inured again just after Moyes arrived, it would have been interesting to see how he would have fared in the last third of the season.

I wouldn't be surprised if Moyes sees Delap's potential, and has a hunch he personally can bring it out.
