Let's talk about: Brian Clough's and Peter Taylor's Nottingham Forest

Went to that, think we were 1-0 up at half time, then Clough brought some fat get on called John Robertson who proceeded to roast us good and proper. What he achieved with Derby and Forest was outstanding.
Can't remember a single thing about the football played

Kevin Campbell tells a good tale from when he was a young player at Arsenal.

They were playing Forest away in a FA Youth Cup semi-final and Campbell played very well by all accounts. Clough collared him at the end of the game, pulled him into his office, locked the door and tried to get him to sign a contract with Forest there and then.

All the while Pat Rice is banging on the door calling Clough all the names under the sun. Guessing he didn't fancy turning up back at Highbury and having to explain to George Graham the whereabouts of his promising young striker.

I remember Football Focus doing a feature on the two promising young midfielders at Forest. One was Keane. Guess who the other one was.
Neil Webb?

Cloughie was a legend - from the days where characters were allowed to shine, speech wasn't controlled or coached by media reps and the European Cup was a real trophy contested by real champions.

Give me a time machine and I'd go back there in a heartbeat - much more interesting and less choreographed times. We've lost so much since division 1 was renamed for tv customers.

The glory days were before my time but he has to go down as the best English manager ever simply for winning the league with 2 unfashionable sides and winning the european cup twice with one of them. A brilliant combination with Taylor and the fact that none of that Forest side have a bad word to say about him says a lot. Yes he smacked those fans and Nigel Jemson on those occasions when he was older but he should have got the England job at some stage.

I used to work in an office very close to Old Trafford when United signed Neil Webb.
One day I pulled along side him at some traffic lights. He was in a fancy sports car, roof down,
music blaring & wearing a cool pair of sunglasses. I was in my Ford Sierra. He had the
World at his feet. The epitome of success. He played for United and then got the England call up.
A glittering trophy laden career beckoned...He then got injured playing for England and went
downhill rapid. Lost his place in the United team. Lost his place in the England team. Put on weight.
He eventually split up from his journalist wife and ended up being a postman. Just how could it
all go so wrong? Amazing how life pans out...

If you haven’t watched the Clough versus Revie interviews on YouTube then you really should.
Absolutely incredible. The enmity between them is vicious. You just would not and could get that
interview today or anywhere near it. It really is amazing. It’s in two parts but definitely worth a watch

As I mentioned, The 3-1 defeat at Goodison in 77 was my first match. In the wild blur of memories of sights, sounds and smells, sadly, one of the clearest is the racial abuse given to Viv Anderson.

Bit of a pioneer as an attacking full back. Was at goodison the following season for a league cup tie when they beat us 3-2 and Anderson scored a screamer.
I was at that game not only did they give us a spanking but Anderson's goal was one of the best I've seen by opposition at Goodison.

Maybe... and we had a lot of other good non-superstar midfielders back then - Don Masson, Asa Hartford, Willie Carr, and so on. But surely McGovern could have got at least one cap? His Forest teammates did (Burns, Robertson, Gemmill, O'Hare, etc) . He was better than Rioch, who captained the side at the 78 world cup.

Can't have too many anglo's in the squad. Needs to be X number of Gers and Celts in the squad, and some others (probably Aberdeen and Hibs/Hearts).

No cigar there mate. Scot Gemmil. Played for us Under Walter Smith. Suffice to say the promise was broken

His arl fella Archie Gemmil was a great player who nearly signed for us but Clough said to have arrived at his house and wouldn't leave till he signed for Derby
Ballys dad gave him the nod as he didn't want him coming to Everton jeopardizing his son's position
These were the days when players were signed overnight in motorway service stations.
