Let's talk about: Brian Clough's and Peter Taylor's Nottingham Forest

Remi Moses still with us as well Chris, rumour was the only reason United bought him was the chairman at the time was very religious and he was hoping Moses could get a cross to Jordan..........
OK right - I've engaged the grey matter and looked into this - I'm confusing the lot with David Rocastle. He's definitely (sadly) dead and wasn't even involved with any of the clubs mentioned, although they do all play on red. lol

I didn't live through Clough, but you look at footage etc.

What strikes me with him are two things. Firstly as you say a complete maverick. The very best people, the genuises amongst us don't follow rule books or guides, they write them with how they do it. They set precadents etc. You always get the sense he did that.

The 2nd is his old idiom of football being a simple game made complicated by idiots. It's true of football and it's true of life. The amount of people I have worked, for, with, alongside, coordinated myself etc, the ones who can talk and act with simplicity stand out. The ones who have such an understanding and confidence to convey messages in a simple way stand out. He could do that. It's a great mantra for everyone.

We live in a world now, where we all want massively complex discussions on things, and people see themselves as making an impact has to be either a big thing, or a very complicated one. Just see what is simple and do that. Clough embodied this to me.
We think very much alike here.

(You might, therefore, want to seek help)

I particularly enjoyed his brief sojourn at Brighton during which they were knocked out of the Cup 4-0 at home by Walton & Hersham and lost to Bristol Rovers 8-2, also at home.

Was once in the queue behind Cloughie in an offy in Derby - didn't say anything as he was a bit focused on his purchases. Other than that, The Damned Utd is one of the great modern novels, and is a fine look at the whole Clough/Taylor dynamic. The film of it is OK, but obviously can't get at the demons in Clough's head in quite the same way. Of Clough & Taylor's Forest team, it has always been a great mystery to me why their European Cup-winning captain McGovern never played for Scotland.

Worth mentioning that the Damned United is a work of fiction, and his family were really unhappy about it.

It is, and they were... and whenever I lend it to anyone I always point out it's a novel, but I do think there's a lot of truth in it. Ditto Red or Dead.
"I believe in Miracles" is one of the best football docs I've seen. Defo worth a watch.
I have this and have meant to watch it for ages... must dig it out and give it a look.

If you get bored ,go on youtube and watch that forest side playing liverpool in the European cup, I watched it a few weeks a go, talk about a high pressing game, they didnt give the RS a second of peace on the ball, liverpool odds on to win , well beaten.
Good watch enjoyed it .

Semi-final of the European Cup with Derby as well - beaten by Juventus with allegations of the German ref being bribed in the first leg. Think Clough himself said Juventus were the better side tho.

I'm pretty sure that Forest were also cheated out of the the EUFA/Europa League 84 final when, admittedly a very good Anderlecht side bribed the ref in the semi final. Forest, would have played Spurs in the final, were 2-0 up from the first leg but lost the second leg 3-0.
