They're still exceptions to the rule. If you honestly think Lescott would take a 50% pay cut for no reason then you're in cloud cuckoo land. Ain't gonna happen. No club will pay a transfer fee for him and the player himself will run out his contract on the astronomical contract and negotiate a Bosman/signing on fee with another club at the end of it. Common sense, can't blame him either.

You are acting as if Lescott only moved to City for the money, when something tells me that he wanted to join a team that would actually win trophies. And it may be the case that he would rather take a massive pay cut, then spend the latter stages of his career languishing on City's bench, and preventing him from showcasing his skills for international selection.

Not only for the money, but that was definitely his primary motivation, and it is for the vast majority of footballers. They have a professional career between the age of 18 to 35 if they're lucky and they have to earn as much as possible during that time, so of course they go for the money.

We will never no for sure, but I'm not sure if it was his primary motivation. I think the opportunity to move to a club that will actually win things played an equal part, at the very least.

He could get both at Manchester City, whilst he could have neither at Everton.

God I hope so, he was the best defender on the planet before his injury imo. Still very good now but he's never hit those heights since, literally nothing at all ever got past him.

Anyone who wouldn't want Lescott back needs to get real with football, the man left for a massive pay rise and the prospect of joining a team who would win the league (which they did) - anyone in his position would do it bar the odd couple.

He's a class player who was being praised for some great performances near the end of last season, him and Jags at the back again could be what this squad needs. If we can sell Heitinga for 7m+ and bring Lescott in on a loan deal with a future fee that isn't crazy, then that is brilliant business. This would also give us some more cash for January, an extra 5m on top of what we should have to spend (6m+) can mean a great player coming in.

If Moyes would take him back, so should our fans.

I wasn't thrilled with Lescott's performance (or lack of one) against Arsenal before he left for City, but most of my anger over that deal is reserved for that odious clunge Mark Hughes. From a footballing stadpoint, I'd have Lescott back in a heartbeat.

They'd lost quite a bit of experience when Nasri and Clichy left. They only really had Gibbs to play at left back and he had a lot of injury problems. Their first choice centrebacks are 28, 27 and 27, so I don't think Wenger will look to make a senior signing in that area.

Fergie rates Evans. Vidic is supposed to be coming back soon, so they'd have 5 to choose from with Carrick also able to play their in an emergency. I would be very, very surprised if City sold or loaned a player to their rivals.

I'm not sure whether Luiz is an Abramovich favourite but he seems to keep getting games ahead of much better defenders. Terry and Luiz are both left-sided, so I think it unlikely that they would being another player in for that side.
