Leon Osman

No - he didn't. He didn't even have a good game. He was his usual below average self (Which is slightly better than average for him)

Besic and Barry had very good games, were both on the pitch for the full 90, and were still covering more ground at a quicker pace than osman after 80 mins - and osman had only played 35 by then.

Good thing they were doing their specific jobs well.

If your issue is that Osman looked knackered then that's a problem in itself, sure, but to say that he was below average because he wasn't sprinting up and down the field…

Actually, no, what am I doing humouring you – point out any actual problems with Osman's performance last night other than he looked tired? He covered fantastically, linked up well, and was a lot more solid off the ball than, say, Mirallas…

God forbid after a great win last night people might actually come out of the game with the opinion "Osman could actually be useful to the squad".

But he isn't. He offers very, VERY little for the excessive wages he receives (And has received over his entire career).

I'd much rather that money went on a younger, fitter, hungrier and better player. He merely went through the motions last night. Did nothing out of the ordinary, and contributed very little - at the very most no more than most other professional footballers from the top two (maybe even three) divisions would have.

The mind boggles on here sometimes, Ossie came on crunched 2 city players in the first 5 minutes of being on and diligently tracked on the left side time and time again but gets no credit! Yes what little pace he had is no longer there but apart from the pass to Baines at the end he did his job very well. He is still one of our best for holding the ball until a pass is on.

Diligent? o_O

He's (forever) the weakest player at holding or shielding the ball - far too easily outmuscled, he's the slowest player in the squad, and he's (forever) the furthest player away from a mark when the opposition get posession.

Goodbye osman. Thanks, but you've outstayed your welcome by three seasons at the very least. :bye:

If that's what passes for 'fine' , then the bar's been set extremely low.
What did he do wrong, besides a few misplaced passes?

Osman is still one of the few players we've got in our team who can receive the ball on tight spaces in the attacking areas and move it on well. Cleverley is good at this (hence why he sometimes plays on the left) and Pienaar was a master of it. Barkley and Besic can both be very good, but they're inexperienced and inconsistent. You need old heads amongst young players.

The opposite of Osman is someone like Mirallas, who is often poor in possession and has limitations in his link up play.

I'm not so much an Osman 'fan', just saying it how I see it. I like Mirallas, he's dangerous and has a good scoring record. But he can he can be awful at keeping possession.

Coming from someone who lauds Barkley so much I'm surprised at your blind and sustained criticism of Osman.
