Neville retired because he was forced too, for months beforehand he was chatting about he was going to carry on playing and wanted a new deal. And tragically, if it were not for that backpass against Wigan, he likely would have gotten one. He went because he and Moyes both knew that if he'd ever have pulled the shirt on again after that then they'd have been a full-blown pitch invasion.
He knocked us out the cup that year. Was glad he didnt play again.
goal 1 fair enough, goal 3 heads had dropped and gave wigan time and space to cut us open.

Goal 2, straight from kick off, straight to mcmanaman as if he was purposely trying to do that. killed us off

What a load of rubbish.

Pitch Invasion?

One pass being the reason not to be awarded a contract?

He started to show his age and therefore CM was no longer a viable option - if Moyes had stayed i am sure that Centre Mid would have been a high priority to strengthen that summer, Coleman was becoming the number 1 right back, Baines obviously was the number 1 left back.... where was he going to play? Perhaps a sub/cup player role would have suited him, but he most likely wanted to carry on playing regularly.

I cant wait to hear what guff is thrown about when Osman leaves

"Not offered a deal because of poor choice of karaoke song"?

I notice Osman not playing the criticisms are now being hurled at young Ross Barkley rightly or wrongly has he is having a bad time - who wants to be centre mid at EFC - a young unknown type Alan Ball from somewhere perhaps??????
Fans have to realise Osman was always a centre mid mostly stuck out on the right wing and RB is now trying to play with an unbalanced formation with players in his way i.e. Naismith who is playing too well to drop!!

Totally different beasts. Osman is essentially crap/average and has been over ten years therefore his poor form is judged accordingly. Barkley has shown some sublime form in patches and has world class potential - therefore, as a youngster he deserves leeway when in poor form.

They both prefer to play centre Mid so how are they different beast ? all I know any one who plays there for us when things are not going well is heavenly criticised. and the boo boys go after them - we are on a thread about a player in Osman who maybe facing a career threatening injury!
like him or not he has been a very good servant sometimes played out of position and has scored some great goals for us!
I still rate him as a 60 minute player has he can create a killer pass, and score a goal or two!
I agree he is a veteran in our squad but we have a few of those!

Are you seriously trying to defend Phil Neville? You're on the wrong forum mate, the bloke was absolute last as a player and a captain to the point were it was embarrassing.

I know we are full or wit and sarcasm here (notice i didnt say intelligence) but Leon has given 100% to this club, whether or not you feel he is a great player or average, he at least deserves our backing, i always remember more gifted players leaving us because they didnt have the fight in them during our dark periods, Leon stood up strong (only time you hear osman and strong in the same sentence), i will miss him in a Everton shirt but he isnt really good enough to start for us anymore im afraid.

Interesting view on the 2 players 1 is crap the other sublime. I prefer to class them as 1 is a very intelligent footballer and the other is a footballing retard who plays by instinct.

10 years of Osman, the stuff we Everton fans put up with eh?

Defend him? Nope - he wasnt of any use to us anymore as we had better players at full-back and his performances at centre midfield weren't good enough.

I am merely saying that if you believe that a potential contract offer depends upon one bad pass and crowd opinion then I think you are wrong.

And further matey - Aren't forums the perfect place for debate between people of differing opinions?

Not going great this, is it?

Neville would have gotten a new contract had that not happened against Wigan and had Moyes not left, everyone knows it because this is Everton we're on about. Why did he go missing for months? He practically went into hiding afterwards, went off twitter for months and wasn't seen until he came out in a suit on the last home game of the season. We are worst club in the league when it comes to giving contracts to players who don't deserve them, e.g. Osman and Hibbert. Neville would have gotten one too had he played on, would bet my life on it.

That disastrous day ended his career (shame it didn't happen 3 years earlier), even he has near enough admitted it since. Had Neville ever played for us after that then Christ knows how people would have reacted, might even have been Nyarko'ed.

Pity he absolutely didn't in the biggest game of his career like, the '09 Final. Was disgracefully anonymous.

Hahaha. He stood by us?

He had no other choice. No one has ever tried to sign him because he's crap.
