In a perfect world we'd have top-class cover for every position, but in reality, we have to compromise here and there. Ossie is no longer first choice, he's a squad player, and showed tonight he can still make some sort of contribution. A one-year extension sounds about right to me. If he can do something useful coming off the bench or in the "easier" matches from the start to give the likes of Barkley a rest, that's no bad thing.

Ideally, the money awarded for his extension will reflect his lessening importance to the squad, but we'll probably never know if he's taken a pay cut.

I know Leon's blown it for me, always thought he was a decent little footballer, undersized but tried his hardest, the word out of Goodison since Bobby took over and his auto biography have ensured he won't be getting much love from me anymore. I'm sure he's not arsed in the slightest like.

Ossie just sort of sits on the fence of quality. He's not gash, he's not great. Just a decent player, can score the odd goal and it doesn't cost us too much. How such an inoffensive squad player can divide opinion so much baffles me. I'd give him a kick for ratting on Cahill, though.
