In his new autobiography, serialised in the Liverpool Daily Echo, the 33-year-old explained how the Latics, then managed by current Everton boss Roberto Martinez, tore through Moyes' side to score three goals in four minutes.

Wigan went on to beat Manchester City in the final, and Osman, like many of the club's fans at the time, believes the Toffees missed a real chance to lift silverware for the first time since 1995.

"I was 31 and felt this was the opportunity. It had slipped through our fingers. I spoke to players after the game and asked what they remembered from the gaffer’s pre-match speech. Everyone recalled the same message: 'This is our day so don’t choke. Whatever you do, don’t choke. Listen, don’t choke'.

“Because he was saying it, it felt like it was ours to lose rather than ours to win. City were the only other top team left in the cup and we had a good record against them. They wouldn’t have worried us."

moyesy installing a good level of fear into the players, no wonder we bottled it at crunch times

So the actual final vs Chelsea wasn't a real chance at Silverware? Even the local press are myopic spin merchants with agendas.

That game passed everyone by mate despite being given a head start. A few had absolute nightmares (eg Hibbert) but Osman wasn't one of them.

What?!?!?!

One of Osman's absolute worst ever games. Look at him for the first goal, him and Hibbert and their "closing down"

Dear me, that is historical revisionism at its worst

two separate things there mate.

First bit

Applies to GOT, as it says.

Second bit.

The point im directing towards you is that I think at worst Leon has been an average footballer with a few moments of magic. As the years have gone on his influence has waned, naturally.

Tell me mate, during the days of Nyarko, Linderoth, Li Tie, Mark Pembridge etc etc, dont you think Osman was better than most, and with the financial constraints placed upon the club at the time and therefore being relative, and therefore good enough for the club?

Hes been no world beater, but neither was Tim Cahill.
You've just answered your own question; he looked average in a below average squad, and he was younger than them. Now he's one of the oldest in a squad filled with quality and he looks worse than Pembridge.
As for Cahill, if Osman had tried as hard, or showed the same desire as him, he'd be revered by Evertonians; simple as

Ey mate its all opinion isnt it and if you think Mark Pembridge was a better footballer than Leon was/is then fair play. I think thats bordering on craziness but thats just me.

And for me I have no idea have you quantify 'effort'. As i said before, is it sweat? looking tired at the end of games? Leon Osman has for me always tried as hard as any other footballer we've had in the last 10 years. Ive never looked at him at any of the games and thought 'theres a lack of effort/application there'. Sure there are plenty of times ive thought 'theres a lack of quality' but there were plenty of times i thought that watching tim cahill too.

The reason people love Tim Cahill is that he scored a bag full against the kop and was always publicising his love for us. There are plenty of players who dont do that, like Baines, Hibbert and players previously like Dave Watson who were never vocal in that way but you could never deny that they thoroughly enjoyed and loved being part of the club.

I just dont accept that Cahill 'tried' harder, and I dont know as ive said how you can justify that point. He was braver, scored more goals and had a better celebration. But tried harder? Nah.
