Leighton Baines

Garbutt got bummed by Johnson when he came on. He's not ready to be playing every week for us.
He will always get the experience by playing week in week out.
Stones was the same, he needed regular football to improve....and he is still making mistakes
If you want the young ones to improve you have to play them
Also we have Oviedo who done a great job in covering Baines last season.

Always a big fan of Baines, but not sure if the failed move to Utd has affected him mentally as he is not the same player

he didn't get bummed though. Johnson managed to take advantage of Garbutts lack of game time, about twice. When the whole side was playing awful and he had no one infront of him for protection.

Garbutts been good all season, so i don't see how playing fifteen minutes of a game where everyone was playing poorly, and he himself hasn't played for ages is any sign of him not being good enough.

Really its been a season or two.

Still better than Garbutt though
Can't really blame him for that he has had to adapt his game and be more defensive due to the premier league having more players tracking back then 2 or 3 seasons ago, even hazard does it now. Its not like when pienaar left for spurs and he was bombing it down the left all the time having distin to cover at the back

Baines has always allowed too many crosses to come in. But that aside he's been brilliant. People wonder why he's seemingly not playing so well now -- look no further than the absence of a proper partner down the left. We have easily forgotten the brilliance of the Baines-Pienaar combination over a long period. Failure to replace Pienaar with a wide player of a similar mindset has blunted what was once our strongest weapon.

See the anti-Baines plotters are out again. Your Spanish fool and his horrid tactics would look even worse if we didn't have the most creative defender in the league. Got taken off with an injury, maybe he had a niggle that affected his corners? Maybe he's not perfect. One bad game and he's being melted down for glue again.

I don't understand what you all want from him, his corner delivery has been great for the last few games, and back when Jagielka was struggling Baines was our most competent defender. No, he isn't the focal point of our attack anymore, but that's by design. In the games itself I rarely see him put a foot wrong and he always looks dangerous.
