Leighton Baines

Wow love the knee jerking on this forum sometimes. Now baines has lost a yard of pace, he's playing on the last 2 years performances. Oviedo is the future, baines can't play in Roberto's system and has not adapted. Guys get a grip. See not of you saying this was writing this after the united win, arsenal win, etc etc. but when we lose it's ll so obvious he's no good anymore. Baines is England's number 1 left back and is brilliant.

This.

I've seen some rumours about him being injured for next week which is terrible news as we need a win to finish 5th and he's vital.

Can't be bothered reading back, but if people are seriously criticising Baines at Southampton then they don't understand football.

He was completely exposed by Deulofeu's inability to do anything in possession and utter lack of footballing know-how. Therefore, he was stuck in no man's land, unable to commit beyond Deulofeu in case he was inevitably dispossesed, and wary of dropping too deep and inviting Southampton on.

You are all completely [poor language thing] insane

He's not in form right now, but he was great against United and Arsenal. Probably could have had 5 assists in the last few games if our finishing was better

He plays a different game under Martinez and misses pienaar badly.
Last season he was attacking a lot more but bainsey and coleman are more restricted under Martinez.

hahahahahahhahahahaha

Mate, Coleman has bagged a bunch of goals this season due to how much Martinez encourages his getting forward.

The difference is that we don't play almost every attacking move through Baines like we used to.

I think by his usual standards, he's had a 'good' season.

He's still been the best LB in England, which shows how high his usual standards are.

So now we turn on Baines??

LOL

My sweet lord.

Pretty daft from anyone slagging Baines off tbh, has he had the best season for us for his own high standards, nope. Then again he's had the most change ahead of him and generally the weakest part of the team every week is the position right ahead of him. Take that into consideration and it explains a little bit about why this hasn't been his most impressive year, we get that left side sorted for next season with some quality in their and watch as he gets back to his very very best

so far from memory we have played LW this year as a starter, Pienaar, Osman, Delefeou, McGeady, Naismith and Barkley.... and possibly Oviedo too

So 7 separate players have started in tandem with Baines, nearly all of them not actual left wingers naturally or even competently and we wonder why his form has been a little bit off...

Nice analysis.

He was also injured for the first time in a several seasons (08?) - he mentioned how hard he found that mentally, let alone all the transfer/England uncertainty.

Still has the best stats for a left back in the league this year and there is no-one more reliable on their penalties.

If that is a bad season I am really looking forward to him having a great one next year.

Interesting article in the Telegraph about Baines. Says he pretty much sat on the fence whilst Everton and Man Utd fought over him. I suppose that's what you do when you don't know what decision to make.

Means you stay/go with which ever club wants you more.

He's also played centre mid in training games for a few years!
