When he was Wigoon manager, Bobby had an injury crisis, and he played Espinoza (a CAM) at LB - he's also played McCarthy at CB in the past as well. I wouldn't be surprised to see someone like Pienaar or even McGeady at LB, with a forward playing sweeper and two CM's ahead of him, something like;

---------------Tim--------------
----Stonesy--------Jagielka----
-McGeady---Barry---Coleman-
------Barkley---McCarthy------
-Naismith--Lukaku--Mirallas--
Espinoza isn't a CAM.

Failing that, let's get the Angry Ant back - Terry Phelan - and try converting him to the left-hand side of the field.

I used to love him, but not so much at Everton. He was great at times for Ireland. Used to watch some of the Irish games at my friends grandparents house, and his granddad would nearly have a heartattack when Phelan would jet off down the wing! "Look at him go!!!"

back on topic, Leightons lovely

it's 2014, we simply can't be playing 2 defenders. where's distin ffs!

one alternative people haven't mentioned, barry LB and jags in barry's role, like he use to play at sheff utd. always liked him there tbh, although this move wouldn't make a massive amount of sense.

He plays a different game under Martinez and misses pienaar badly.
Last season he was attacking a lot more but bainsey and coleman are more restricted under Martinez.

baines has been poor this season really, defensively hes been bad and is lost without pienaar covering for him, hes just not himself, he gets in good wide positions but very rarely looks capable of going past people, maybe hes got his mind on the world cup , he was terrible for the 1st goal v palace and as for him not being as effective under martinez it didnt hinder oviedo one bit he got forward and went past a man, to be honest we looked more of a threat with oviedo at left back.
