League of Ireland 2024

Didn`t realize the Bohs Rovers game was being played at the Aviva today. A crowd of over 33k. Just a shame that most of the grounds are so small or complete tips, as today's crowd show that there is a great interest in the LOI at the moment.

Interesting article of how young talent is being retained in Ireland due to Brexit and the positive effect its having on League of Ireland football.

Its a shame that apart from Tallaght stadium, the rest of the LOI grounds are in such a sorry state.I`m not saying they would be getting 30k crowds every week like the Bohs game, but so many grounds were absolute tips back in the 90`s and have gotten no better since. Dalymount, Oriel Park and United Park in Drogheda the best examples of this.

Dalymount is being redeveloped, Sligo and Drogheda also have plans approved (I think). Ultimately it will require capital grants to improve facilities.

The FAI is still a shitshow and really have little or no interest in the league.

It's having a knock on effect on grassroots clubs, who are no longer part of the food chain. When the talent they develop from a young age progress to professional football abroad, they don't get anything kicked down to them.

Dalymount has been like us talking since the 90`s about a new ground. It`s an absolute disgrace the state it was allowed to fall into. The Drogs had big plans for a new ground when they were riding high only for it to be objected to. FAI had too many people down the years looking after themselves first and foremost, and never gave a second thought to the senior game in the country.
