Laurel Hubbard: First transgender athlete to compete at Olympics.

New Zealand's Laurel Hubbard has become the first ever transgender athlete picked to compete at an Olympics, in a controversial decision.

Officials have selected her for the women's weightlifting team for Tokyo 2020, after qualifying requirements were recently modified.

She had competed in men's events before coming out as transgender in 2013.

Critics say Hubbard has an unfair advantage, but others have argued for more inclusion at the Games.

"I am grateful and humbled by the kindness and support that has been given to me by so many New Zealanders," Hubbard said in a statement issued by the New Zealand Olympic Committee on Monday.

She will compete in the women's 87-kg weightlifting category.

Could this lead to other sports?
Remember when 203rd-ranked German Karsten Braasch beat Serena Williams and Venus Williams back-to-back at the 1998 Australian Open.

And theses girls were world class

Fairplay to her. I have every confidence she will be fine. Seen her when she was lifting for the dudes. Has good potential. Bumming incoming.

Beeeefcake. After she wins gold I wanna see her bodyslam the rest of the podium to show the dominance. :hayee:

It also sends the valid message out if you are not competing at the top, change sex. I for one can't wait until the 2048 games when there will be no females by birth taking part.

The world went mental at some point to even consider this, nevermind allow it.

Proper dodgy issue this.

Let's face it, if you were born biologically a woman and transition to become a man then you will basically be giving up on competing in professional sports (if that was your thing).

I can't see how it is fair in terms of sporting integrity.

There's a good chance she'll win. What with being a man and all that...

Bit ridiculous to allow a biological male to compete with females, especially as he’d already competed at a top level as a male. Just basically kills competitiveness and robs women who have worked their whole lives a fair chance at an Olympic medal.
But but but its against their rights to deny them entry!!

All the other women in that category should pull out in protest..
