I liken Everton and Goodison Park to a now elderly but formerly a captain of industry who fell on hard times.

During his hayday he went out and bought a beautiful Rolls Royce. How everyone admired it in its day. However time past and the service bills mounted just at the time when his fortunes suffered. He kept his car despite his friends buying new and bigger models. Some said it was still a great car despite the rust, the lack of performance by modern standards plus the horrific service costs and fear of failing its MOT.

His accountant and family begged him to sell the Rolls and buy a functional, reliable and cheap to run Ford Mondeo. Despite wavering once and putting an order in, for certain reasons it never happened and to this day he drives the Rolls.

Interestingly his fortunes are changing. New investors have come to his rescue. At last our captain of industry has a choice, does he buy a brand new Rolls to be the envy of his friends once more or does he go down the sentimental route of completely revamping his old car, new everything but still the style and class that everyone loved all those years ago.

To be continued.....

Oh for gawds sake just sell the Rolls and the Bentley, get yourself a bike and enjoy your mid-life crisis ffs mate !

There are quite a lot of very good cars between a Mondeo and a Rolls

right, there's no actual reason or historical precedent that would suggest grounds for skepticism. clearly, mental deficiency is the only possible reason why anyone could still have reservations. it logically follows that everything is going to be wonderful forever.

To be fair, that takedown of Moores is a garbage hatchet job published by an entity that exists solely to spew venom. One could just as easily write something equally positive without telling a single lie or half-truth. The reality is Moore's tenure in San Diego had an equal number of highs and lows.

Should this happen I'll have some reserved excitement and some reserved qualms. As @AaronTheBlue says, we won't be able to properly judge him until he starts acting as Everton chairman, and there just isn't enough information to assume how that will go.

Can confirm that article was a total hatchet job. Not at all a balanced view.

As the writer of the article goes by a pseudonym i give him absolutely no credence whatsoever for what he writes, unless ofc he just happens to share the same name as Steve Buscemis character in the Big Lebowski - Theodore Donald Kerabatsos, bit of a coincidence like if he does lol

Not based on any inside info, i think this will be done, or at least 'agreement in principle' by this time next week. We must have the odd poster on here who sits near the directors box who could spot and post, if one of Moores/Noell, close advisers, new faces are at match on Saturday?

Because if the above happens i reckon we're day's away from the announcement.
Must admit the club have done well to keep there visits under wraps seeing one of them was in the Hilton were loads of people would of been around

Sidespin is a sub-blog of Deadspin (which knows nothing of football) designed for commenters to write full length articles on subjects that interest them.

This is just a commenter that wrote up an article and pushed it up as part of the Gawker networks 'user generated content' push. He's a funny commenter, but god only knows if he knows anything about sport.

It's by no means journalism. Best case it's the equivalent of Chico or Tubey getting something on the front page here.

Jesus it's that bad then?

Martinez also said he'd like to see Kenwright stay on in some form.
Roberto Martinez wants Bill Kenwright to stay involved with Everton amid US takeover
ROBERTO MARTINEZ believes chairman Bill Kenwright should retain an influence at Everton even though his decade-long search for new investment is set to be realised before the end of the season.

Talks are continuing with US investors headed by John Jay Moores and Charles Noell over a mooted £200m takeover.

A sale to foreign owners would strip another Premier League club of a genuine link to his supporter base and Martinez said Kenwright should retain an involvement.

“I always said that the chairman is for Everton and I wouldn’t want Bill Kenwright to lose his association with Everton – ever,” said Martinez.

“I think it would be a loss if we do that.

“Whatever the investment or whatever the situation is in the future, in 10 or 15 years, I would love to see Everton benefit from our chairman for the rest of his life.”

Kenwright’s search for the investment that could take Everton to the next level has long been borne out of a realisation that the Premier League is about billions not millions any more.

It is thought Moores and Noell are being backed by a number of investors and Martinez said new owners would have to “understand” the football club.

“What I can say is we are not in a situation where we need to be rescued or we need some sort of financial boost to save the football club. That’s not the case,” said the Everton manager.

“We are in a very, very strong position.

"We don’t have to sell players for financial reasons, so the new owners need to understand the football club, they need to understand what Everton is and what it represents to thousands of families and from that point on I can say to every Evertonian that our chairman is the perfect person to make the final calls going forward and into the future.

“I think investors will bring extra investment or the opportunity to fulfill the projects we have behind the scenes and help the ultimate dream, which is becoming one of the best teams domestically and in European football.”

Asked if new owners would lose that understanding, he added: “I don’t think it’s going to be that drastic. If there is an investor it’s not going to be a drastic change from day one, day two.

“I don’t think that’s going to happen. If it happens it’s going to be over three years or a period where everything is well controlled and introduced.”
