I'm guessing the fall from 5th to 8th had a significant effect on our ability to spend, given the amount of prize money we lost.

It's about £120K a place, no? Hardly a monumental loss.

Actually a fair bit more mate!!

Chelsea - £16,000,000 (WINNERS)
Manchester United - £15,200,000
Arsenal - £14,400,000
Totenham Hotspur - £13,600,000
Manchester City - £12,800,000
Aston Villa - £12,000,000
Liverpool - £11,200,000
Everton - £10,400,000
Birmingham - £9,600,000
Blackburn - £8,800,000
Stoke - £8,000,000
Fulham - £7,200,000
Sunderland - £6,400,000
Bolton - £5,600,000
Wolves - £4,800,000
Wigan - £4,000,000
West Ham - £3,200,000
Burnley - £2,400,000
Hull - £1,600,000
Portsmouth - £800,000

Where d'you reckon that went then?

Id say a signifcant increase in wages, massive outlay on our turnover if the weekly figures reported are to be beleived, the books will show.

We will also be down 10 mill earned from the FA Cup the previous year, a drop in revenue on televised games - porb a loss of 15 mill, may balance out with the new TV deal so i would expect our expect our revenue to be static and our wages to have significanlty grown i.e. the wage to turnover ration is likely to have jumped significantly over the summer.

Wages:

2007 £34M
2008 £39M
2009 £43M

That steady incremental rise in wages doesn't explain a complete breakdown in transfer spending does it?

If Wage : Turnover was 61% last season and turnover was £79million

That makes last years wages as £48.1million not £43million.

Your figures don't add up there Davek as per.

It does actually do the Maths on the rates the new contract increases weekly and * 12. Thats before you consider the operating costs of the club - Moyes 5 mill, staff etc. Its a signifcant outlay. If reports of what Arteta is on 75k) is accurate thats close to 4mill annualy.

We will also be down 10 mill earned from the FA Cup the previous year, a drop in revenue on televised games and a lower placed Prem finish - porb a loss of 16 -17 mill on last years figures. It may balance out with the new TV deal and 3 mill from Europe so i would expect our revenue to be static give or take and our wages to have significanlty grown i.e. the wage to turnover ration is likely to have grown significantly over the summer..

Are you suggesting Bill is pocketing cash? lol

Its pretty obvious all clubs are getting thier house in order before the spend as you earn policy comes in next year.

I would think we have made a huge financial outlay in terms of wages this summer beleive it or beleive it not that commitment dwarfs transfer deals in general and secured players on long deal with next summer in mind.

I think the bottom is going to fall out of the transfer market, from next July onward.

Not sure if many of you lids read this earlier this month:

http://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/live...challenge-for-football-clubs-100252-27100056/

Liverpool accountant PKF warns of taxman’s challenge for football clubs
FOOTBALL club finance directors are cautiously optimistic about their financial position this season – but a clampdown by the taxman could change all that says the ninth annual survey of football’s finance directors by Liverpool accountant PKF.

Finance directors in all leagues were quizzed, including Everton, Liverpool and Tranmere, and most expect stable or growing revenues for all revenue streams.

But PKF football sector specialist Billy Cairns warned: “Does the rose-tinted view adequately reflect the problems that could arise from the combination of a potential double dip recession and the austerity measures from the government?”

And with just 22% of clubs expected to make a pre-tax profit, it is feared HM Revenue & Customs could step up tax recovery moves, despite the failure of its legal challenge of Portsmouth for payment ahead of football-related costs.

Mr Cairns said: “This is an ongoing problem as HMRC will be exercising tighter control in coming months and is contesting the ‘football creditor’ rule in insolvency.”

He said a further, more worrying trend is the increasing percentage of clubs whose benchmarking range is above 65% for wages to turnover.

This has risen from just 17% in 2008, to 25% in 2009 and 38% this year.

However, the survey found that only 40% of Premier League clubs and 12% of football league sides will spend more on players’ salaries in 2010-11, compared with 75% and 44%, respectively, last year.

Question is ? Is Everton in that 40% this season? Give the number of contract renewals we've done this summer? - I'd say YES. But that was to keep hold of players like RODWELL AND ARTETA. So justifiable.

Probably. But this is offset by the increased TV revenues to a large degree. BUT has meant we've not had the budget to go out splurging cash on big transfer fees.

BUT it also shows many of our rivals have had to of begun cost cutting measures!

* Edit. With Yobo £48k a week going out - we've moved towards the 60% who've cut costs... maybe even crossed back into the boundary and balanced the books ?

Moyes is trying to balance his budget there.... ready for January it looks.

I'm happy enough for him to do it. And in January us to get THE BIG FISHES!
