Last Film You Watched

Agreed, but I enjoyed Solo.

They made a huge mistake in not having a proper story for the trilogy. 7 was awful, the original cast were still alive, to have a film where they’re not all on screen together was bizarre. They could have introduced new characters and then phased out the older ones for 8. Last Jedi set up Kylo Ren to be a villain to rival Vader and then 9 just wiped that out completely. Kennedy and Abrams ruined the trilogy.
I would say Rian Johnson ruined the trilogy with the mess that was The Last Jedi. Thought the Force Awakens set up the trilogy quite well but then Johnson turned Luke into an awful character, destroyed all the work in setting up Snoke as the big bad (so then had to reintroduce the Emperor to try and make some sense of it).

Don’t get me started on the whole Space Monaco sequence which ruined Finn.

So much of that film made no sense at all.

It’s all about the money, not the quality, as they know the cinemas will always be full, regardless of the quality.

They’ll keep going until one of them bombs badly.

Surely they would make more money by producing a higher quality product?

It says a lot that in the sequel films, they didn’t have a scene or two with the older characters together which I doubt not A single person in high level production considered how many people would want to see it.

I hated Solo, but thats mainly down to Harrison ford and Billy dee Williams being far more charismatic than their replacements (and I really rate Donald glover), so I never really gave it a chance.

I did enjoy the earlier Mandalorian stuff, think it would have been better keeping him as a bounty hunter and getting rid if drogu. I do think Andor is the finest sci fi series I've ever watched so I'm not against the new stuff

The force awakens is a horrible film. A rehash of old story, rey being more powerful and annoying than anyone else despite zero training. Loads of bizarre character decisions and some mad science. As said before the decision not to reunite the old cast when they were available was a massive mistake.

Last Jedi set up Kylo Ren who was far better than Snoke. They should have stuck with Ren for 9. 9 is one of the worst films I’ve ever seen.

I enjoyed Andor. I quite liked Boba Fett as well, like a low budget Mando, it was an easy watch with the kids. Ashoka was poor and we didn’t even bother with the last series.

In the first one Rey barely does anything strong in the Force other than the lightsaber grab at the end. Then she gets trained in 8 and 9.

She’s basically a toughened up kid who has grown up on her own in a sort of equivalent of the Wild West.

I agree Kylo was being set up well but they ruined it when they killed Snoke so easily.

What are you referring to when you mention “mad science”?

She reads Kylo Ren’s mind, even Snoke is surprised by it. She uses mind control to tell a stormtrooper what to do, she can seemingly speak/understand any language and knows how to fly the millennium falcon to name just a few. Luke couldn’t do any of that until after a lot of training. They made her too strong too quick, so they had nowhere to go with her character in the later films.

They kill a star to get power to kill a planet. Wtf! So they drain our Sun of energy til it’s gone, to destroy earth when draining the sun of energy would kill earth (and the rest of the planets in our solar system) anyway. They couldn’t come up with a better story than just a bigger Death Star. It’s a terrible film and it ruined the sequel trilogy because of it.

I get that they had a difficult job to try and satisfy different generations while trying to build a new audience, but for the money they invested it’s amazing how little effort they put in to the actual story. Especially given all the literature that was out there already.

She’s lived on an alien planet ( I know they are all “alien planets”) all her life having to survive by going to Unkar Plutt for tokens or whatever they were called so of course she would know the languages. Han understood Chewbacca and Jabba so not that weird that she can.

I’m not saying the Force Awakens was an amazing film but I thought it set up the trilogy pretty well and Rian Johnson ruined it with The Last Jedi. I quite like Rian Johnson’s other stuff so it’s nothing against him in general. I knew it was going to be bad as soon as we had the early scenes with Luke tossing away the lightsaber and drinking the milk from that weird creature. Made him into some curmudgeonly caricature.

I will also agree with you that 9 was an awful mess and the trilogy as a whole was bad.

I get the impression that the film was , underneath, Season 4 and they ran out of ideas or any ideas at all so condensed it into a film.

Agree with you they have done a terrible job, makes you wonder the thought process behind the scenes as well. A sequel trilogy with no story arc, makes zero sense. I do wonder sometimes if some of it wasn’t just incompetence.
Surely they can't have entirely run out of ideas for the Mandalorian? I actually really like the show (particularly season one and two) but its as shallow as a puddle of toad spunk! A five year old could come up with a whole bunch of storylines that wouldn't have looked out of place when compared to previous ones. If they couldn't come up with anything beyond this film then they're beyond creatively bankrupt.

I'd actually respect them a little bit more if they'd deliberately done such a bad job but I can't believe they thought it through that much. They just bought the franchise because they could, wthout understanding it or the the fans. I think that they assumed copying the MCU formula (that was admittedly working well for them at the time) and winging it without a coherent plan would be fine. Never is this more clear right at the end of The Rise of Skywalker when Palpatine says "I am all the Sith" and Ray responds "and I am all the Jedi". Its literally a copy and paste job of Iron man and Thanos in End Game "I am inevitable" "and I am Iron man!".

I enjoyed Solo too mate. In much the same way I enjoyed the Mandalorian. Its a fun way to kill a couple of hours but its unbelievably forgettable.

I'd also say that Johnson was just as guilty of wrecking the sequels. By the end of The Last Jedi he's killed Snoke and made General Hux look like a clown. There's no competent or credible villains left. He killed Luke who doesn't even leave the planet but instead skypes through the force and then dies. The flimsy story of the heros being tracked through space is creatively bankrupt and had to introduce two mcguffins (in lightspeed tracking and petrol) just to work. But I'd definitely agree that Kennedy and Abrams are just as guilty.

Maul Shadow Lord was good. Think anything that Dave Filoni and Sam Witwer are involved with are about the best the franchise has to offer along with Andor.
