The Slave and the Sorcerer (2024)
A throwback to the sword and sorcery movies of old, just with worse acting.
The film is clearly made with love, and it's for the most part a fun watch. I did struggle a bit during the first 15 or so minutes, and it felt like this was going to be a looong sit through. But I eventually enjoyed the movie more as time went on (it's about 80 minutes long).
A couple of pretty actresses (the most prominent one literally just stood there looking nice for the cameras for the most part) made it easier to get through the worst parts of the film. The acting is so over the top, it actually kind of works (the guy playing the king is one of the worst actors I've ever seen though). The film knows what it is (pure cheese), and that's why it's not a waste of time watching it imo.
The best part of the film, is the visuals. The CGI parts are not great, but I've also seen a lot worse, and considering the budget I actually find it kind of decent. The setting and the costumes were for spot on. Bad actors or not, the people in the film really look the part. Especially the guy playing the slave is an absolute (oiled up) physical specimen. Great casting, I must say.
The power metal soundtrack, made by a band with a singer who simply can not sing, was hilarious. Well done.
6/10
Watched on a DVD I got from the kickstarter campaign. They didn't deliver the other rewards they promised, so I won't support them again, but the film itself is not bad, so I gotta be fair with my rating.
