Lampard appointed head coach of Coventry

He seemed to have a good and experienced team around him as well. Don’t understand how he was so bad.
There’s such an intangible element when it comes to the fit between manager and club. Even notwithstanding that, it had to have been hard for a young manager to come into such a flaming basket case of a club and get it right.

I have no doubt he tried his best though, so good luck to the geezer. Hope he brings them up and dishes us 6 easy points.

I don't have any problem with Lampard. He's a good, likeable guy. We were just far to big a job for him. He was so woefully out of his depth here that it was unreal. Maybe he'll improve, he seems to at least be doing a decent job at Coventry and be well liked there so fair play I say. Unlike some of our previous managers I wish Lampard all the best. Its not his fault we were daft enough to appoint him long before he was ready for a job this big.

Spot on mate, I don't dislike Lampard as a bloke but as you say well out of his depth here.
Maybe the sky blues are just the right size and in the right position for him to properly learn his trade as a manager and take them forward, good luck to him.

Yeah but the graffiti…
I litterally think he was employed because of some scruff with a spray can

The Everton job was far too big for him in terms of what needed to be done to see us through. The state we were in, needed an experienced head to deal with it, because it's been more than just football on the pitch. That's why Dyche managed it better and Moyes is managing it better than both. No shame in that.

If you're wondering what went wrong with him at us. He played 3 centre mids but made two cover out wide. Left us wide open to the counter every time.
Came from success as a player. He played in front of Makalele. Makalele played in front of the most costly keeper and defence of the era. His chelsea side was a team of two halves. Defence with a world elite shut down man. Then one of the best centre forwards of the prem ever, supplemented with the most costly wingers of that era, himself supporting Drogba, and another high profile midfielder to help move the ball to the wide slots.

Mourinho knew how to strangle games with orders to kick out and fall over, all the anti football stuff you could get. They didn't care, 'one nil to the arsenal' (george graham) became 'one nil to the chelsea bells'.

The genius of this set up was highly defined roles for the players and having enough on the bench to cover injury or poor form. A winger went in and did a wingers job. No settling in, it was simple, get at the full back and get the crosses in at Drogba or look for round the back. Keeping that side so fit and available meant it was a machine. And they had great players for that time - Cech, Cole, Makalele, terry, Carvalho, Robben, Duff, Cole, Lampard, Gallas, Drogba.

This is pertinent to Lampard because he came from a world with an embarrassment of riches, both on and off the pitch, he wasn't afforded such luxury here or anywhere else. It's why mourinho is considered a brat, a sulky kid that's always had his own way. Real managers take the best they can get and craft a side with a way of playing into something beyond the sum of their parts. The chess game out on the pitch vs the tactics the other guy has set up to play to.

Maybe the penny has dropped, maybe he's got the idea of out thinking and out fighting the opposition. Almost like someone's comment from a while back about shopping in M&S and not Harrods has been heeded.

Inherited a well constructed set up from Robins, if he positively survives two seasons he may have something as manager.
